About to be bluntly honest, but if you don't want to look trashy, I would advise you not to show off your tattoo.

..a rare occasion where we disagree KS. A beautiful tat is, in my opinion, about as far from trashy as one can get.......

We must come from different "hoods". My daughter would be mortified if I got a tatoo, let alone dressed to show it off at a special event for her. Not to mention, I don't care for them myself.

...i really wouldn't suggest that tats be compulsory evening wear.......just that they can be beautiful body art and not necessarily trashy in the least. Although, a skull and crossbones with 'born to boil bones' written on it can be. i figure that life in all its various glory produces a myriad of things that can be beautiful, classy and tasteful....and those things don't have to be conventional.

Another vote for Ebay .. IF.. you know what works on your frame!
I've picked up Designer stuff from the `better` stores at a fraction of the price.
Dont forget that Classic is NEVER out of style (even wiff the tat!)

Do you have a Ross Dress for Less in your area?  They have great dresses, if you hit them up early in the week.  Also, if you are a bargain hunter, try finding out when your local thrift store or Goodwill puts out their new stuff and go to town! Also, here is a site that I like to browse, yes I know that some of their stuff is "gothy" but you can find pretty pretty things as well:

Oh, and where is this new tatoo?  Just curious...

Be careful of the quality of items bought from places like ross dress for less, most things are just fine, but sometimes items do end up there cause the zipper is crooked or a button was left off, or the hems not right.

I don't know if any one is the "perfect dress" but you can't go wrong with DK.  Classy, sexy.  I'm not nuts about her khaki collection this year, but any of the last six would do it.   I'm partial to the white jersey.

I second the recommendations for Newport News and Nordstroms.  Chadwicks.com also has nice dresses, about 1/3 less than your typical department store.  You can also check out the selection on Amazon, with the added benefit of consumer reviews of many products.

I highly recommend finding a local tailor or alteration shop in advance if you need to have the dress slightly modified. And if you do purchase Online, be prepared to pay for faster delivery since you only have 2 weeks left.  You will also need to coordinate the rest of the outfit, purse, shoes, jewelry, etc.

Congratulations to both you and the graduating senior!

Try not to outshine your daugher, it is her day after all and her success you should be celebrating.

Got to agree with this. Unless you did her homework for her, it's her day and she is reaping her reward. Kinda like the mother of the bride thing.

I shop via Body Central (both cat an online).
Very nice clothing at very good prices - I've even found some that show off my tat in a very classy way.

Good luck - and I hope you find something that shows off the wonderful tat.

I have three tattoos.  A rose vine on my ankle, a cartoon on the left shoulder, and a beautiful red-headed fairy on the right shoulder playing a flute.  Backless would be outstanding, cause I got back.  [:D]  They are where they are because they can be covered, and usually in a situation such as this I would, but I would like to show off the fairy, and she'll be showing off the one she got the same day.  We're a little unconventional, yes...lol, but it's just our way.

I am going dress shopping with said daughter today.  She is actually thrilled that I am so excited, and is eager to help.  We are incredibly close, a real blessing, and we raised each other.  She understands how important this is to me, and isn't taking it personally.  Actually, she wouldn't go if I didn't make her.  She skipped homecoming and prom, and isn't really into the pomp and circumstance of high school.  She didn't even care until the other day when she brought home her cap and gown.  Now she finally seems excited.  Yay!

I am also sure I'm going to cry all day.  I'm happy, but I'm also sad.  I'm sure you get it.

Anyway, I loved the websites, if only because I love clothes shopping!  I try ebay periodically.  Mainly I'm afraid of buying the wrong size and not having time to fix it.  We're going to Bergner's again today, and I'll ask about the dress.  It really is perfect, and I have perfect shoes for it.  Or maybe I'll get a new pair!  Anyway, I'll see if they can order the perfect dress for me.

Thanks so much!

StormsSlave -> RE: The perfect dress... (5/2/2008 7:09:09 PM)

I found it!  The perfect dress!  I went to Bergner's and, miracle of miracles, they had it in my size.  They also had it on sale!  I got the shoes, the jewelry!  It was a fun day.

Thanks for all of your help.  The clerk was very accomodating when I requested she look into it, so that was good advice.  My daughter and I both bought shoes, and we're going to beauty salon together day of.
