Seems a lot of people are selling the Chinese junk they bought at fire sale prices just to buy food and gas.
And this "Global Economy" just keeps getting better and better!

Bush economic miracle #... oops, lost count. Mission: destroy the middle class. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Yeah ... and here's a example from the article ...

Christine Hadley, a 53-year-old registered nurse from Reading, Pa., says she used to be "a clotheshorse," splurging on pricey Dooney & Bourke handbags. But her live-in boyfriend left last year, and she has had trouble finding a job.

Piles of unpaid bills forced her to sell more than 80 items, including the handbags, which went for more than $1,000 on a site called AuctionPal.com. Now, except for some artwork and threadbare furniture, her house is looking sparse.

"I need the money for essentials — to pay my bills and to eat," Hadley said.

The article is hogwash.   at least locally.  the thrift stores have total junk in them. stuff that should be in a dumpster. [ 2 of them nearby.]

Now that you mention it-  yes.  I was thinking - now when the page loads, [not on CM] but MANY sites, there is alot of noise on it.

Pick up a magazine  -so many ads-it is hard to find an article.

Turn on the tv,  too much noise, even during the program!  [whats coming up- that pop up person annoys the shoot out of me]

land on a website- a pop up chat gets in way.   this on websites now so controlled- it is like voice menu press 1, i think you said shop...  [the voice tells you how important your call is, and about all the other services] so endless clicking.

commercialism is ruining  enjoyment of the day.

which brings me to coupons and rebates.  if it is too agonizing- that is  sorta like work.

2008 -how much worse can it get?

ever see "no logo"??

Anyone ever stop to think that this "global economy" lie thats destroying the middle class began when Clinton signed away millions of jobs with NAFTA?  Both parties are guilty and our past two presidents are equally responsible for the destruction of the middle class

it could all be fixed with a stroke of a pen.

[im waiting...]

Irishknight -> RE: Bush's "Slowdown." (4/30/2008 9:19:05 AM)

But they all get too many kickbacks to use that pen.  I say we vote them all out and disband the two rich boy clubs in favor of human beings.

BlackPhx -> RE: Bush's "Slowdown." (4/30/2008 10:25:09 AM)

Clinton actually came close to a balanced budget and debt reduction..but..that has long since been frittered away. Please remember that what is illegal for you to do the Government does with impugnity. If you write a check without the money to back it up, you can
a) go to jail for uttering a worthless instrument
b) be assessed bounce check fees from your bank and theirs plus penalties

If the Government utters a worthless instrument..they just print more money.  Has anyone stopped to think WHERE the money for these Economic Stimulus Checks are coming from? Afer all they have also encouraged those who do not need to file due to low income to file just to get a check. Yep you got it..
Your Federal Taxes just filed...to pay for the services we are already not funding adequately
and
Your Social Security Contributions. . . come on you didn't really think it was going to be there did you?

Most people I know are paying off high interest credit cards (or trying) with the check..so instead of stimulating the economy it is paying off older debt.

If Mr. Bush is so damned optimistic and sure about the economy, then he can damned well live off his own millions ( thank you daddy) and forgo the Retirement Stipend of his full Presidential Salary for Life and Full Health care No deductions or limits and Secret Service men for life. Sigh I just want one President to try and live on what the average person gets a month for Social Security and to cover their medical and living espenses for just 1 flipping week. They couldn't do it, but yet, they feel our pain and are right there with us as we all tighten our belts.

Politics = Poli=Many+Tics= Blood Suckers

poenkitten (out of blood)

Irishknight -> RE: Bush's "Slowdown." (4/30/2008 6:14:35 PM)

Actually, Clinton set up the destruction of America's economy.  His highest standing in the economic sense was in the middle of his regime.  As the millions of good paying jobs began fleeing the country for China, Mexico and India, Clinton was claiming credit for the work that Congress, led by Newt Gingrich, was doing to try to keep the budget balanced.

And there is NO president who will ever try to live off what any of us have to live off of.  They were rich crooks before we elected them and we made them worse by enabling them.  Of course, if any real person were to try to run, you can bet they would turn up dead, simply disappear or be slandered so badly that McDonald's would be afraid to hire them.

And that is most definately an adequate definition of politics.

Termyn8or -> RE: Bush's "Slowdown." (5/2/2008 8:58:05 AM)

It started way before Clinton.

Blaming NAFTA for the US being unable to compete (if it indeed isn't) is avoiding the real issue. Maybe Americans have just been living it up too much and spending more than they earn?
