I  heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday. Did anybody else see him or hear him? He was on Fox news. This is a white man and he was upsetting the Fox news commentators to no end. He pointed out. You see him John? A white man he pointed out -an Ambassador! He pointed out that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Mohammad was in fact true. America's chickens are coming home to roost! We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arawak, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism! We took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism! We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel. We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenagers and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard-working fathers. We bombed Gadafi's home and killed his child. "Blessed are they who bash your children's head against a rock!" We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to payback for the attack on our embassy. Killed hundreds of hard-working people; mothers and fathers who left home to go that day, not knowing that they would never get back home. We bombed Hiroshima! We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye! Kids playing in the playground, mothers picking up children after school, civilians - not soldiers - people just trying to make it day by day. We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans, and now we are indignant? Because the stuff we have done overseas has now been brought back into our own front yards! America's chickens are coming home to roost! Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred and terrorism begets terrorism. A White Ambassador said that y'all not a Black Militant. Not a Reverend who preaches about racism. An Ambassador whose eyes are wide open, and who's trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised--

Well, his name is "Peck"......[8|]

Alumbrado -> RE: Have the chickens come home to roost? (4/29/2008 7:18:09 PM)

Aren't there a myriad of ways to apply that adage to current events?

Yes, but as this is the "soup of the day", so to speak.....

And I didn't start this thead as a way to dump on Rev. Wright, I am honestly curious as to how many think about the "why" of 9/11.

christine1 -> RE: Have the chickens come home to roost? (4/29/2008 7:29:07 PM)

yum, i love chicken. especially with taters and gravy.

i did have a more serious comment to make, but  i'm not interested in flames...well, unless they are the cooking chicken and red meat and ruining the ozone layer type of flames...[8|]

OK... 'chickens come home to roost' in the Malcolm X context has always spoken to me of unintended consequences as much as just desserts.

Did the people putting battery powered toys under the tree for their kids in the 60s and 70s  cause Bhopal? Or the anger against Americans linked to such incidents?

Did those who voted for JFK to achieve Camelot topple the domino that led to ousting Dr. Mossadegh, and give the Ayatollah his power base?

Did civil rights activists offend those who don't want minorities and women to receive equal treatment elsewhere in the world?

Nothing exists in a vacuum, and getting a good job at the Ford plant so the kids can play Little League, is the fuel for someone else's burning anger.

BrineEyes -> RE: Have the chickens come home to roost? (4/29/2008 7:42:48 PM)

Hopefully these discussions can happen without flames.

The chickens that are came to roost on September 11 2001, was the lack of puportional responses to earlier attacks.  I'll go read up on Ambassador Peck afterwords, but there is somethingto be said for puportional response: it's how we keep things in line, be it through economic leverage, or the use of force.

We don't hear much from Gahdafi anymore, perhapse it's a good thing we missed killing him by a matter of minutes, and while a shame his son died.  Isnt that better than him dying  and us having to have to go to war with his heir?  War is politics by other means. . .the idea of multiculturalism and such, is what it is, but this truism about war is not gonna change.

Perhapse that can and will change as people become more and more aware of the world, but it depends on how much people question the sources.

Agreed.

All the millions and millions of "butterfly wings" flapping every day, around the world....someone, somewhere, is always going to be unhappy.  But where does one draw the line, blurry though it may be?

Alumbrado -> RE: Have the chickens come home to roost? (4/29/2008 8:31:12 PM)

That's the problem... I draw the line at the US trying to overthrow burgeoning democracies in Iran and Vietnam, at faking the Gulf of Tonkin incident, at the Opium Wars and other British neo-imperial redrawing of former colonies lines on the map.

So according to CollarMe logic, I must be 'for' the Mooslum Terrrists...

In reality, I adamantly oppose the pieces of their platform that call for killing every Jew on the planet. among other things.
So where does one take direct effective action to prevent the chickens from roosting, in the face of such a tangled ball of hate, insanity, greed, and so forth?

SugarMyChurro -> RE: Have the chickens come home to roost? (4/29/2008 8:33:45 PM)

And they will keep coming until we change the way do business with the rest of the world. Empire is not something that can be maintained age after age. Every empire the world has seen eventually caved in under its own monolithic weight.

Level -> RE: Have the chickens come home to roost? (4/29/2008 8:35:16 PM)

I don't know that there is such an action..... sometimes, you might just have to do your best, then wring the chickens neck.

I'll just say that I'm not at all concerned with the good Reverend and his world /geo-political take on things....

I am however concerned with Austen ''The Ghoul'' Goolsbee ; a perennial free-marketeer/outsourcing/globalistic freak and one of Obahma's chief economic advisers.

He's not black man though....He's a dyed-in-the-wool white boy with a hundred dollar hair cut and a bow tie....and a mentality near and dear to the ''Chicago boys'' school of thought. The same school of thought that's responsible for the slow decay/erosion of the standard of living for America's middle class.

The Ghoul and his geeky bow tie scare me a hellva lot more than the good Reverend....

Sure....

And you didn't choose the false dichotomy poll responses to influence the totals either.
