We had a discussion in a debate course I had to take for my degree about Barbie dolls.  Whether the inventor meant to or not she has forced a very unrealistic image onto society, especially women.  We are forced to try and fit into this cookie cutter mold of the perfectly shaped woman, how many women actually acheive this goal?  Better yet how many young girls starve themselves to the brink of death trying to live up to Barbie's stats?

I say until they start producing realistic Barbie's then they should be banned from all shelves not just Iranian shelves.  Until then I will continue buying my neice and my friends' little girls realistic, useful toys like art kits, drum sets or you know that really annoying ball popper thing that seemingly irritates everyone but the deaf.

lilMissHaven,
Barbies stats, when increased to scale to lifesize, would render a woman incabalbe of standing upright. Now, sometimes Master puts me in ballerina heels, which also renders me incapable of standing up. But, other times, he wants a cup of coffee. So its a sometimes and trade off type of thing.
Btw, i was the oldest in my family, and therefore the first with children. Now my children are grown, and i have nieces and nephews, and a chance to get back at siblings, who, in their defense, did not know what they were doing - but i do hehe.
There are strict protocols i follow when buying gifts for nieces and nephews. First and formost - it must either be very messy or very noisy. I noticed every gift you mentioned hit the mark!

They're called 'retribution gifts'  .

Well since my siblings are older and considered me their own personal little princess to be protected with their very lives if it came down to it and my friends are fantastic...I guess my gifts would just have to be called "Bitch gifts" cause the people who suffer the gifts I give have really done nothing to earn them.

yes, LilMissHaven, I think KittenSol meant the ones from ME were retribution gifts.
I am taking the trouble to point that out only because of what it means to YOU.
Someday you will have children of your own. And then your siblings will be giving retribution gifts. <BG>

Which makes being deaf all the more of a blessing. *insert evil giggle here*

Deaf can be an advantage, but messy is still messy <grin>
for some reason I am thinking of my next door neihbor when my kids were infants. She was my children's first baby sitter.
Both her and her hubby were blind. She had a four year old, and he was enrolled in the counties head start program. And he HATED it. He would try to avoid getting on the bus.
So when the bus came, he would hide. And he knew how to hide, too - he would stand right in the middle of the living room, perfectly quiet, and not make a sound, until his mom would giv up and have to go to the door and call the bus driver to come in and look for him. And he'd be, in plain sight, right in the middle of the room. Smart kid.

Ok, how about "Fat Slob Barbie?"
"Barbie hasn't been riding her bike or excercising for a very long time now!"
"And worse, our Barbie's discovered "Sara Lee!"
"Of course "Fat Slob Barbie" will need a whole new wardrobe so start working on your parents girls!"
"The new "Fat Slob Barbie" comes with a reclining couch and t.v. remote."
"Oh look! There goes Ken on his bike with a new girlfriend!"

OMG thats rightous!! I would so love that kid.  Course I'm a bit of an ass myself and have used being deaf to get myself out of all sorts of trouble..."but dad I didn't hear you say be home by midnight, you never told me to clean my room" and my all time famous "hear what?" usually followed shortly after some nosy catastrophy caused by yours truly.

I really should one day apologize for aging my parents before their time.

Yes, those barbies would be great popeye, they could spend some quality time with :

1. Deadbeat Dad Ken, alimony and child support checks sold seperately
2. Nascar Ken, orange cheeto stained fingers and beer belly included
3. Neo-Con right winger Ken, theory of evolution and college degree never included
or my favorite:
4. angry white man Ken, sense of entitlement and fear of liberal "elites", women  and minorities always always included.

Fun for the whole family.

Actually I never owned a barbie as a child, I hated dolls. I had dump trucks, play guns and other "boy toys".  But my neighbor next door had barbies and I had a guillotine my Dad made for me to play with, we used to put her in there and chop her head off. Yes Barbie is actually Marie Antionette.
However I do think if they are going to dolls for kids to play with they should be somewhat realistic looking.

As for Ken, didnt he leave Barbie for Blaine? I could have swore I read that somewhere though you know how the love lives of these dolls go...

Wherever there is a Barbie, you can be sure there is a Ken that is tired of fucking her.

How about "Crack Whore Barbie."
"She's a real "Action figure" now!"
"Look, there's "Jimbo", Crack Whore Barbie's pusher."
"Look, Crack Whore Barbie's so desperate for a fix that she's on her knees sucking Jimbo's dick to get a fix!"
"Look! Now her teeth are falling out!"
"Look, now Crack Whore Barbie's Probation Officer "Paulie" is at her house and she's sucking his dick to stay out of jail!"
"Now Crack Whore Barbie's stealing her neighbor's t.v. set!" "Oops! Busted, here's the cops and they're cuffing her!"
