TB was wiped out in the UK - mass migration has brought it in, and mass migration from the ISC, Africa and so on.

...minor hijack.

Sorry, LE, but your assertion that TB was 'wiped out' in the UK is factually inaccurate. A significent minority of people are, in fact, carriers of TB. The trick is to prevent expression. TB is a tough bug, and requires a serious antibiotic intervention to stop. HIV and overuse of antibiotics have far more to do with any resurgence of expressed TB than any amount of immigration.

Just to help with your research.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuberculosis
"In developed countries, tuberculosis is less common and is mainly an urban disease. In the United Kingdom, TB incidences range from 40 per 100,000 in London to less than 5 per 100,000 in the rural South West of England;[55] the national average is 13 per 100,000."
This is not 'wiped out' and is nothing to do with immigration per se. Have you bought into some BNP propaganda?

(edited for my very own factual inaccuracy)

I see the danger but somehow differently I guess to most people.

I don't believe that the BNP will ever take power.. But given the strong likelihood that our next Government might be a Conservative one, and given that much of our 'yob culture' comes from children of the original 1980's yuppies who are in influential positions in the City, in the media, marketing, businesses, and in television, etc - hence the new yuppie image of the BNP with the suits, only telling half the story, the buzzwords and the image - there is a danger of the BNP influencing the Tories through 'the back door'.

But then again this could be scare tactics from Wapping to get people to think 'oh well, maybe Labour isn't that bad'.

But it is. Blair was inspired, don't get me wrong, and he's made us a world leader in diversity and equality which I guess is one of his legacies, but abuse of power, complacency and indolence appear to be en vogue for this Government.

I'd be happy to invite Gordon Brown personally across the Thames and give him some drama workshops. There's got to be a personality somewhere there. Failing that I feel the should ditch him and replace him with Alexei Sayle. There's nothing wrong with the people of this country, we're wonderful people I guess as a nation. I mean why else would people want to come here? To be able to buy bags of chips?

The problem is the system. Totalitarianism isn't working.. I feel we should thank Mr Murdoch et al for keeping us so well-informed over the years and his electoral advice, wish him well and give him the old two fingered salute. We need, badly need a responsible government who's back in touch with the people.

But people in a society can screw up en masse. This is how Bush got in twice.

Phil - the point of my post was to give an example of what might provoke anger at immigrants and so support for the BNP, not to examine the epidemiology of TB. The point is that in popular expression "TB was wiped out" and now we have it around in the UK again as a result of immigration. The vast majority are not going to research any further than "those damned foreigners".

Incidentally, I'm quite aware of what you wrote, since my grandfather was found to have TB when he died (quite how he survived so long with all that he had and did is a mystery!) and all of us had to be examined, including my then 1 year old son - who was found to be infected.

I dont think they will gain power as such either Stella, but as someone mentioned on page 1 of this thread, the problem of the BNP getting anywhere electorally is that there often arises a corresponding rise in crimes motivated by hatred - other ethnic and cultural groups on the receiving end, but also the likes of us.

Some would say this is because the BNP sends thugs in to mount such attacks, and maybe this is true to an extent. But I feel its far more attributable to a seething undercurrent in our society which is given permission to be expressed by the presence and success of the BNP.

Below is the link for the BNP manifesto.
http://www.bnp.org.uk/pdf_files/minimanifesto2007.pdf

Having read the link its quite clear to me why the mainstream media seek to muzzle the BNP.

Facts
TB: the government issued official warnings of the increase in the UK caused both by immigrants and pilgrimage to the Haj.
HIV: the govenment inspector of health recently announced that 75% of cases newly diagnosed where found in people who had been in the UK for less than ayear.

Any proof on the wild assertion that much of the yob culture comes from yuppies ? From where im standing it comes from both sides of the social divide. You of all people should know this, living where you do. I also wonder about to the BNP being able to influence the Tories, they havent done so before.
