I dont see why  it is a problem.  We all have quality Chinese goods in our homes- that will be passed down from generation to generation.   Exceptional quality merchandise- we clog the parking lot to get more and more.  Some even took a 2nd mortgage on house to shop for this cargo.

I read about this the other day.

Found it quite amusing that a CNN reporter classed an entire group of people as being the same.

Mind you no one likes an oppressive power. Pride for some is fear for others.

Good story, pahunk.

quote:

Reuters reports that CNN is now being sued by two Chinese citizens for $1.3 billion, or one dollar per Chinese citzen:

I wonder which government agency told them to sue? Does this Cafferty fellow know Brigette Bardot?

camille65 -> RE: China sues CNN Jack Carfarty, 1.3 billion (4/26/2008 5:02:23 PM)

'Mr. Cafferty clarified his comments on Monday's broadcast of "The Situation Room," saying his phrase "goons and thugs" was intended to mean China's government, not its people.'

Whirled peas

Was it Phil McCafferty?

camille65 -> RE: China sues CNN Jack Carfarty, 1.3 billion (4/26/2008 5:12:31 PM)

No? The OP and links are about Jack Cafferty. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/16/world/asia/16cnn.html?_r=2&ex=1366084800&en=b946f1efac138e6e&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Was Chester Draws involved in this scandal I always suspected he was on the far left?[8|]

Personally I dont mind. Cafferty's endless sarcasm just makes me want throw something at the TV half the time. The guy never has anything productive or thought-provoking to say.

CraZYWiLLiE -> RE: China sues CNN Jack Carfarty, 1.3 billion (4/26/2008 5:42:10 PM)

Be American, buy American...

Did I miss something?
You mean to say that China makes "quality" stuff?

I hope the very first judge this case goes in front of explains to the Chinese how a free press works, and orders them to cover his legal expenses.

It's a kind of slander unless there is proof that the average Chinese citizen is those things he described. Having said that they should rise above it as often people judge us for who they think we are rather than who we actually are.

After the legal department had been in touch with him no doubt. Then he can spin it how he likes. If people are so bad at communicating their ideas and opinions correctly in the first place then one could question how they are in the position they are.

Full, you should probably read up a bit on the founding documents from when my country severed the ties with yours.  We put free speech ahead of guns. [;)]

pahunkboy -> RE: China sues CNN Jack Carfarty, 1.3 billion (4/27/2008 6:32:21 AM)

commentary is not news- and is not truth in stone.

very few libel lawsuits succeed in the US.

it would appear that tactics china uses on china would be used on others given the chance.

oh-  1.3 bn ppl  SEEN this on TV ????    gag me.

Ah we had this debate about Bridget.

I think people can either be defeatist and say "Well it's always been like that, this is the law so be it."
Or they can try something dangerous, conduct public consultations and change the law for the better.

I never understood what the term conservative really meant until I realised somethings that should have changed years ago have instead been conserved.

Hollywood: It is illegal to drive more than two thousand sheep down Hollywood Boulevard at one time.
Baldwin Park: Nobody is allowed to ride a bicycle in a swimming pool.
California: A city ordinance states that a $500 fine will be given to anyone who detonates a nuclear device within city limits.
It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

I'm not sure the above laws are still true, I did get them off the internet after all.

I left the conversation about Bridget rather early on.  While I view free speech as a fundamental right, I'm not up on the French rules.

The Bill of Rights is not a city-council parking ordinance, Full.  It is a statement of our basic principles of governance.  They can be changed, but it's a serious pain in the ass to get it done.  Some of us are very fond of the First Amendment just the way it is, thank you.
