I am wondering how many of you out there are feeling the economic sting we are going through and what ways it is effecting you.
Our hours have been strangely cut.  Mine were cut to 14. I am going to talk with her today, and ask her if she is going to cut my hours like that, I want more control over when I work.
Yes, I know probably won't get anywhere, but thought I would give it a try.
I am also looking for ways to save money.  My nails will probably go next.   I love my nails.
Gas is souring.  Most of our stuff is going up about a $1.00.  My theory is how many other places are going up here and there?  After a while, it is time for water and noodles.
Just a rant.

For the most part, already there. Good thing I only need to eat everyother day or so.

Bright side; I did just get a raise for driving forklift (.25 an hr), after two years; no retro pay though, I'm sure it's only because they didn't want me to get too excited.

Everywhere is going to go up.  Everywhere already has..the question is how much will it soar?
Everyday a barrel full of oil continues to rise.  Our entire economy is set up on oil.

Put it this way we have professionals handling our IRA accounts and we are down 20 grand in the last 2 months.
I think it is going to get much, much worse before it gets better.

yes, everything is going up as far as i can tell...what is hurting me the worst right now is food, it's scary how fast it has gone up.  and what will kill me in about 6 months is rent, i'm trying like crazy to get into a house or condo before my lease is up.  rent is skyrocketing because of the demand for apts from all the defaulted mortgages...as it is if i re-sign it will increase 150 a month, it could be higher in 6 more months.  ok a bit more on the rant, if the feds decide that they are going to help the people calling fowl on their mortgages i'm going to lose it.  i already pay through the nose in taxes...fuck, i shoudln't have brought it up, it almost makes blood shoot out of my eyes.  and don't give me oh those poor people line of shit, if they couldnt' figure out how much they could afford a month for housing then it really isn't my fault and i shouldn't have to pay for it.  ok, promise i'm done now.

I am more or less unaffected.

Not smart people. But I guess y'all get that country you wanted, eh? Me, I'll just move away to another country if the U.S. goes belly up. My biggest concern is transporting the cat.

Ah, single (with slave) but no children. Life is good!

I feel if I share here, people will beat Me up---so far we are faring OK--I make a 3 figure income, I drive a 14 year old car in excellent shape that I paid cash for and gets the best mileage, its been wrapped once, but you cant tell the age--and I trust it--we don't do frivolous driving ( though we do want to go to the beach this year and will rent a newer car--)--I can still afford to feed and care for the horses, we have cut our water usage--( funny, we had two males living here for 6 months and our water usage was 6 times what it is now with 2 females and a full garden)--the wheat and rice have not yet affected us, though we know we will see it gradually creep in--we talked about this just yesterday that we need to remain very cognizant of what we spend and how--we give to select charities, time and money that will be needed when people start going belly up--and we don't have foolish frivolities---our tv is 18 years old, our pc is maybe 10 that the UM uses, we cut our own 1/2 acre with a walk mower, we dont have the latest styles, but we have something priceless---love, devotion, commitment and strength as family.

I am saying that dollars don't matter the way they used to. Do you suppose that other countries haven't taken steps to minimize their risk for when the U.S. tanks?

I can certainly relate to this thought. Presently, I am at a place that has me wondering; just how much has it ever really meant.

I believe they have; but I also believe that they have no more concern for their citizens, then the government here has for us.

I believe if/when America goes; it will be a domino effect, and those in high places, will be the only concern, of those in high places.

Hmmm, do you realize that even as "backward" a place as Argentina has excellent healthcare for its citizens?

Sugar,

I wish I could explain my thinking to you. As it is, with the present stance you seem to have on faith; it does not appear possible.

All I can say is that I have a very bad feeling, and it does not only concern those in the US.

I am quite happy to admit I could be wrong, but to be honest; the only time I have felt like this, and then believed I was mistaken, was the one time I wasn’t considering that “wrong” can also mean, “out of the usual”.

All the cards have not been played yet, so, we'll see.

If it is any consolation; I hope you are right.

I'm going to start riding a bike to school instead of burning up gas. I've been cooking at all times instead of taking the children out to eat. We wore sweaters in the winter (keeping the heat on 62) but I can't see not having the air on this summer. I make tea instead of buying soft drinks and I got a water filter to replace bottled water. I shop for staples and non-food at Aldi (awesome awesome place) and plan meals instead of buying groceries willy-nilly. I wish I had a yard that was good for gardening, but I get no direct sun (on the bright side, all the old oaks in the yard keep the place cooler in the summer).

Also on the bright side, I think this will force us to become closer to our families, friends, and neighbors, enjoying the little things together instead of living like hedonists. It was kind of a lonely way to live. Instead of going to the beach this summer, I'm taking the kids camping. Instead of the $3K for a week / ten days at the Outer Banks, I bought a pop-up camper with that money and we can take several trips instead of just one (and still have the camper next year and the next and the next ...) If gas gets so expensive that I can't afford to drive an hour to camp, we'll set the thing up in the yard.

We'll all make it through. It'll just take some adjustment and some getting used to.

This cracked me up.  When I have to think about getting my nails done, that is huge for me.  I have had them done isnce 97.
It would be like walking around with no teeth.
Blame politicians.  Let's spray paint the whitehouse purple if we can locate the President, tie him up, and put him in chasity with peppermit oil on his cock.
Oh, my.
Did I actually say that? Slaps my own face.  Damn Washington.

Churro, true and from what I've been reading about Argentina it's not all that "backwards" at all.

You may be on to something there.
Our govt is either out of control or it simply no longer exists anymore.

Popeye? funny how that repression/depression in the USA we have been talking about
for over 6 months is going along.
But wait! We are not in a recession!
Damn it, I keep forgetting that

Wait until gas goes over $5 a gallon, that is when many will re-think their lives.
