Intense physical pleasure and intense physical pain do not simply resist language but actively destroy it, bringing about a reversion to a state anterior to language, to the sounds and cries a human being makes before language is learned. Unlike any other states of consciousness physical pleasure and physical pain can exist without referential content. Neither physical pleasure nor physical pain need be of or for anything. Often, intense physical pleasure will, if deprived of an object, begin to approach the neighborhood of pain. And intense physical pain, when indissolubly bound to an object of great attachment, can flow into and out of the greatest pleasure.

Ummmm. Okay..... HUH??

**Actually I think I get what you are saying and if you are then you bring the question of is Masochism possible attached to the Infantile Brain...... I do not wish to believe it does. I have my own reasons but mostly it has to do with the fact that we all react to different impulses differently. Pain and Pleasure are basic concepts and to the brain there is little difference however the comprehension of each of these acts is what changes the enevitable outcome. .... at least I THINK this is the point you were making.

Rather than offering a Scientific explanation maybe dumb it down a bit so that everyone can play.... myself included.

I'm pretty sure the deep moans of OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD come from the time after I learned language.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/23/2008 2:09:38 PM)

If that were comletely true, wouldnt we all be masochists?

Sundowner -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/23/2008 2:09:57 PM)

DesFIP -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/23/2008 3:56:50 PM)

What does intense physical pleasure devoid of an object mean? I don't get it.

Now if this is just a way to refer to that nonverbal state a lot of us get to during subspace, then yes, a lot of us have had the same experience.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/23/2008 5:36:21 PM)

For lots of people, sure.  And many more will never be masochists.

DesFIP -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/23/2008 5:42:35 PM)

And some of us go nonverbal from nonpain play only.

I'm pretty sure this is cribbed out of the DSM IV [;)]

If not it's brilliant and insightful.

chaosforge -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/23/2008 10:15:43 PM)

maybe we're entering a human-animal part of our brains. i purr and trill in extasy and use breathing methods to counter severe pain as expirienced with my endometriosis.

Thank you, HerLord.  Had zero idea what the question was, or what the diatribe was about.

masterdstar -> RE: Pain and Pleasure (4/24/2008 12:06:47 PM)

".. what the hell did he say?"
He said, "
The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.
Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown.
His scepter shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings.
But mercy is above this sceptered sway;
It is enthroned in the hearts of kings;
It is an attribute of God himself;
And earthly power doth then show like God's
When mercy seasons justice. "
