Aquilifer -> RE: The Democrat Nominee, who's more important for the future... (4/23/2008 11:01:34 PM)

I won't touch McCain with a 20 foot pole. - He either cannot or will not hold his temper. This is ALWAYS a bad thing in a civilian supreme commander. If you doubt this, do a Google search on "ems spa telegram" for a first-rate example of why an ungovernable temper is NOT a forgivable flaw.
- He is in his early 70s and he's a lot more tired and hurt than a lot of poeple are when they reach that point. I doubt he will live through his first term and he'll never outlive his second.
- He hasn't Clue 1 when it comes to militray affairs. Nobody in the neocon wing of the Republican Party does. Real conservatives, like Pat Lang and Bill Lind, have nothing but comtempt for them.
Hillary Clinton has been devoured by her own obsession. - I pretty much expect that everybody who gets to the point where they are trying for the Presidency is going to be obsessed by power on some level. But obsessions must be controlled, lest they control those who have them. Hillary does not even try to control hers.
I have distinct reservations about Barack Obama. However, the campaign now underway has made three things about him very, very clear. - He holds his temper, and he does so consistently.
- He disengages from a problem once he sees it, and thinks it over.
- When he re-engages, he usually does so in a wider frame than the problem was originally posed in.
These are three indicia of a first-rate strategic mind at work.
