pahunkboy -> text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:02:16 PM)

http://freepress.net/node/38441

I HAVE gotten a few I did not want-....but I wonder if prohibiting other carriers from sending to [blocking] other carriers.... is bad for the person. I tend to doubt it.

I think that .15 a message  is too expensive-   it had been .05 a message on ATT.

though this has never happened to me there should be an "accept msg" button.
i dont even get calls on my cel cause i dont give out that # to anyone other than my dr's and my parents.  and the company i am with called me to offer a phone...i said...I HAVE ONE ALREADY DUH.

I use a local cell service, incoming ones are free.

Personally I love text messages. It's the primary reason I carry a cellphone. The problem is when you get into sending too many of them, but then you need to think about making a call or even meeting that person.

Personally I don't see the sense or reason behind some providers blocking the text messages of others. But then again I don't understand the concept of a cellphone network charging someone to receive an international call.

I feel this however will change once Skype becomes more popular in the United States, where you can send text messages freely to any provider for a fraction of the cost from a computer or Skype enabled cellphone.

sub4hire -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:26:02 PM)

I hate text messages, I just don't have the patience to respond in return.
Everybody calls my cell, everybody sends me texts.  I had to give out a number and it sure
wasn't going to be my home number so it was the cell.  Now it rings almost non-stop.
I'm in charge of a local festival here...so yeah..I get texts asking me if I want to hang out..etc.

Not a clue who they are from.  I can even respond saying I've no clue...they will continue to text me back forever.
So, yeah we need an accept screen so the bill isn't so high for unwanted texts.

LaTigresse -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:36:28 PM)

I hate text messages and never reply to them. Unless it is my son, then I call him. My daughter does not text.

midgetmafiosa -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:39:44 PM)

Love texts. Have unlimited ones on my phone. Have a phone that flips open to a full keyboard. Spend half my day at work sending dirty ones (oops - I didn't say that.) Text sex can be great! And I always spell out my words and use proper punctuation.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:45:34 PM)

I have received a couple of "spam/telemarketing" text messages on my cell phone in the last 6 months.  Made me wonder where they get your number.

I love text messaging because I don't always want to talk, but need/want to send a message.  I also have this weird hangup about not bothering people, even my Master, so I usually text Him and let Him call me if He needs/wants to.... especially when He's at work.

Oh and I have an IPhone, so I can also email people using my gmail account........ and read Collarme boards from my phone! [:)]

popeye1250 -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:52:24 PM)

Oh, you mean cell phones.
Well whatever a "text message" is I don't have that problem as I don't own a cell phone.

LaTigresse -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 2:58:50 PM)

Thats okay popeye, I don't have to deal with telemarketers or anyone calling me I don't want to talk to. I no longer have a landline home phone.

subtee -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 3:04:48 PM)

I'm textee!

Text all the time; kids can't tell me they didn't get the call and it's pretty hard to argue with me over text.

travelgman -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 3:22:51 PM)

I have had mobile phones since before they started calling them cell phones and when they were primarily for your car. But I never really used the text function before the last few months. When I started corresponding with a lady I met on CM. The text function comes in handy when she is somewhere  a ringing phone would be in the way or where there are to many people around who would freak out over the the things we may be discussing or who would just be plain old nosey about why she is using Sir so many times in her conversation. This covers everything from a busy lunchroom at her workplace to when she is visiting her Mother.

Lust's over Angels Iphone and reminds her she still owes me a shopping trip and to come pick up all those darn brussel sprouts.

camille65 -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 3:36:37 PM)

I occasionally get a text from unknown sources, usually a sex solicitation like 'Ivanya 23 wanna meet?' and the like.Verizon tells me there is no way to block them unless I remove all texting options from my account. Otherwise yup yup. I got an LG nv the day they came out, full keyboard makes it much easier n faster to type! I think um okies.. I know I type a lot more than I physically say.[:D]

midgetmafiosa -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 3:51:09 PM)

camille - i got the NV orange the day it came out! haha! i looove my phone!

Missokyst -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 3:59:48 PM)

I detest texting and have those blocked on my cell.  I just do not understand how typing out a message is any easier or more clear than a simple call.

LondonArt -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 4:13:30 PM)

I've never quite understood the American concept of charging the person on the receiving end of mobile communications. It just seems so backwards and alien. I like text messages because they're easy and quick and I can get information without having to talk to some idiot, and if someone wants to send me junk texts it's them that's going to foot the bill.

Agreed - it is crazy, and one of the main reason why I boycott mobile phones here (though I know full well that the time when I shall no longer have a choice but to own one is around the corner).

DesFIP -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 5:30:03 PM)

Verizon to Verizon is free but those telemarketers sending me spam aren't. I wish there was a way to block texts not coming from numbers in my phone book.

Bethnai -> RE: text messages- what do you think? (4/15/2008 6:30:36 PM)

I love text messaging.

I have a bundle and that worked out well for almost 2 years. Then with in the last two months they have begun double charging me on the texts.
