Scientists have been saying that for as long as I can remember. I suppose eventually one of the will be right, but when is anyone's guess till it happens.

i havent read all the posts. Have you seen a map of california and all the fault lines? It is mind boggeling. There are quake lines all over even in states back east.
California seems to have the most of them.

PBS did a show on quakes long ago on how to survive one and how to prepare. It is old and was only shown on the LosAngeles station if i recall.
Do plan to be by yourself for a week or more. Don't expect the Government to get you out. There will be tons of people that will need help.
There are sites where you can get a list of what you need in case of a quake. Know how to turn off the gas and other things in your home. Know what to do if you aren't at home when it strikes. Have food ready and water for each person. Have xtra meds and even things for your pets. make sure your pet is microchipped in case it bolts due to fright.

That quake could happen now, tomorrow morning, or 10 years from now. Nobody knows how to predict one. Just be prepared that is all you can do.

Scientists say a big quake will hit California between now and 2037. Scientists say they are 99.7% certain it will happen and it will be at least 6.7 magnitude. San Francisco has a 62% chance of being struck. LA has a 67% chance. LA has about a 37% chance of a magnitude 8.0 or larger within 30 years.

Scientists say it is a wake-up call for California government agencies and residents to put together a disaster plan.

I was watching the Discovery Channel and they were talking about what would happen if San Francisco or Los Angeles is hit by a earthquake with the same intensity as the 1906 San Fran quake. And the damage would be catastrophic. We are talking about many times worse than what Katrina did to New Orleans. People may literally be on their own for over a week before emergency services get to them.

It's a ticking time bomb.

Having been born and raised here in the Central Valley of California...let me tell you a little secret......(ahem) Come closer.... Clooossseerrrrrr.......

EVERY 5 YEARS THIS SORT OF ARTICLE POPS UP IN THE NEWS!!!!!

No kiddin'. "It's a ticking time bomb. You're all gonna die! How can you LIVE in a place that's going to collapse right under your feet!"

Well, the earth shakes for less than 2 minutes and you're done. You pick up your broken china and chat with the neighbors about which dog fell into what pool....

At least WE don't have hurricane SEASONS! and tornado SEASONS!!

I'll take my chances, thanks.

Oh, and if the house is a rockin'-----Don't come a knockin'!!

Living in California means always being prepared for an earthquake and/or tsunami.
