KRANWEST -> Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/13/2008 1:44:40 PM)

“Dammit to hell!  I should have gotten that promotion before Brad!  The bastard’s only been here for two-years, and I’ve been busting my ass for this company going on SIX!  What gives?”

I’d bet decent money that most of us have bore witness to incendiary little tidbits like the feverish rant above, at least once in our lifetimes.  That kind of employee disillusionment is so common in the corporate sector that most us just leave it alone…..ignore it, like a fat expired pigeon, rotting away on a Manhattan sidewalk.

The poor bastard that gets passed up for the younger, “qualified” candidate usually can’t comprehend the reasoning of his higher-ups…. his “superiors”… perched way above in more desirable bureaucratic vantage- points.  Why, according to HIS own words, they’re all just “no good, incompetent fools.  Hell, I could run a company better than ten of them!”  According to HIS limited perception and discernment, they just “don’t know what they’re doing.”

Remind you of something?  I’ll tell you, folks: This situation certainly reminds me of a little story from the Old Testament.  You know the one about Cain and Abel?  Remember how Cain seethed over God’s acceptance of Abel’s “blood-offering”?

I’ll bet some of the same things were going inside of Cain’s noodle.  “Why, that God character just doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing!  Hell, I could run the Cosmos better than that!”

Now, most conscientious Christians understand that Cain was mistaken in his shitty attitude and subsequent fratricide.  In a similar manner to the Pharisees (who came about much later), Cain felt as if divine favor were his right by birth.  His offering may have been birthed from arduous, ass-busting labor, but Abel’s sacrifice was one of blood….of vitality and life.  (See the parallel with the Pharisee’s honoring of “Law”, contrasted with Christ’s emphasis on sincerity and feeling?)

It seems like a lot of us (these days) think that we’re obligated to certain things: To an easy life, to happiness, to success and a relatively carefree existence.  Why, golly-gee……aren’t we entitled to all of those things?  Don’t we all deserve “better” in our lives?

You see – one of the biggest myths perpetuated by our media, and by popular, best-selling “spiritual” self-help digests, is that all of us “deserve” better – that we’re obligated to it, by the mere coincidence that we happen to be ALIVE!  Let’s get the Bible’s take on this kind of delusional thinking:

“And think not to say within yourselves, “We have Abraham to our father; for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham” Matthew 3:9

Hmmm. The Pharisees thought they deserved salvation and grace based on “birth-right”.  How wrong they were, Ladies and Gentlemen. Tsk, tsk: Orthodox Jews with a huge chip on their shoulders.

So, in conclusion, the next time that you find yourself angered at a missed opportunity……one that you KNOW you absolutely deserved……put away that rage, and think about the (bad) examples of Cain and the Pharisees.  Be happy that God possessed the ever-loving mercy to send his only Son, so that yours would be the Kingdom of Heaven.

What seems to be the problem [:D] ?

Just a friendly word of advice!

Maybe he was trying to tell the parable of "The Boss's Son."

KRANWEST -> RE: Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/13/2008 3:41:37 PM)

Not exactly.

Poetryinpain -> RE: Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/13/2008 3:43:29 PM)

No, I think he means more like this:

Life isn’t fair. It’s mean and it’s tough.
It throws us quite a curve.
It loads us all down with rotten bad stuff
We’re sure we don’t deserve.

Merciful God gives blessings to all
Who turn to Him in prayer.
Deserving or not, just give Him a call.
His love is always there.

I've had my share of 'life isn't fair' moments. I certainly didn't 'deserve' to be in this wheelchair with bad eyes, and treating a chronic disease. But here I am.

OTOH, I don't 'deserve' the wonderful things that have happened to me - the sweet friends I have acquired, the moral support and help while settling my financial situation, and the possibility now of finding a wonderful job.

In another thread we were discussing 'power exchange,' and I was tempted to say, "The only entity who has power over me is God." That's the way I feel, and it is perhaps one reason I am still a single sub. But, I am not going to grab at anything out of desperation or out of a feeling that I 'deserve' this. I'm going to wait for what God wants me to have.

I hope the OP meant something like this.

pip, His servant

You're pretty close, Poetryinpain.

None of us "deserve" nice cars, flattering clothes, trophy wives / husbands, successful careers.   None of us deserve the frivolities that materialistic, civilized folks take so seriously...........but God took the initiative to shed light on this miserable, destitute charnal-house , and that light is the blood of Christ.  Ultimately, nothing else matters for humanity, except for that sacred blood-letting that secured salvation.  As for your troubles in this lifetime:

Blessed are those who mourn: for they shall be comforted.
                                (Matthew 5:4)

Zensee -> RE: Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/13/2008 4:34:48 PM)

I thought the moral was - admit nothing and never tell them where the bodies are buried.

Bucking for a promotion,
Z.

Proverbs 12:27

The lazy man does not roast his game,
but the diligent man prizes his possessions.

Deuteronomy 12:11

Then to the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name—there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the LORD.

Matthew 19:21

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

It is really all so confusing....The diligent man prizes his possession....Yet you should give your "choice" possessions to the Lord...I wonder if annually God holds a large garage sale to rid himself of all of the "choice" possessions that he has received? If not it seems unlikely that he will be able to hang with the J-guy.

You do recieve what you deserve for the most part.

Kran what has happened to you....Cult? Brush with death? Religious girl friend? I weep for the future of this land...Another once groovy voice that unfortunately has fallen into the everyday undistinguishable backdrop of white noise.

It's all soooo sad. You have betrayed Mantopia.

Most insightful!
i was brought up extreme Irish Catholic, and the flip to that was "You deserve nothing that You do not work for". Our religion aside, i was told one tried and true (for me) fact .... God gives us all one thing for certain ... free will.
i was pushed to question until i could wrap MY brain around any given situation. i view the Bible as a novel, written by men, hence what i am reading is THEIR perspective.
i am raising my UM's under the umbrella of Catholicism as a means of a starting point, and b/c i am familiar with its' multi-facted pitfalls. i teach them that there are many paths to what "we" precieve as our Lord and Savior, and to NOT discount anothers views simply due to lack of knowledge. i impress upon them that the fact they are here is a living, breathing sign of God's gift, what they choose to do with that gift is on them, and no matter if they fall short, or soar above their wildest dreams .... never the matter ..... they ARE loved.

Domiguy,

For years, I fell into the trap of "modern spirituality".  Come on, now -- you must have heard it a thousand times over from every Oprah brainwashed, cow-eyed fool out there.  "Well, I'm not religious, per se, but I am spiritual."

Great.  Yet another lukewarm rationalization for "enlightened" white-breads to use in order to half-ass their way through existence.  Religious?  Yeah, right!  It takes way too much effort for the average lazy person to "do" religion.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, you've got the "Right-Wingers", focusing their precious energies into war with the Middle East and preaching the all-encompassing pagan idol of "Family Values".  Remember when Christ sat down and ate with the publicans........the prostitutes...........the degenerates?  I'd like to watch the "Family Values" Republicans have to sit down for fifteen minutes in the impoverished stench of some piss-poor, drug-addled  Jersey projects.

I just stepped back from it all, and did what made sense, domiguy.  You can spend a lifetime pointing out inconsistencies in the Bible, and you can spend another pointing out the inconsistencies in human nature, but it all would be pure vanity.  Human vanity is what drives modern culture, and I don't want any part of it.

I was wondering, in regard to your religious beliefs,, why you would advocate hooking up a virgin with a pro (unless you were joking).  I generally thought that (modern day) Christians gave prostitutes a wide berth.

How wide, exactly [:-] ?

I feel there is debate on the berthing - perhaps we could bring in the Coast Guard for consultations.

A zone about 2 arms length, surrounding the user in all 3 dimensions?

Such a zone would allow verbal ministry, but keep fondling at bay.

Gotta look at the big picture.  Suicide prevention is important.

I think that Lawrence may never have the opportunity to procreate with a real, live, flesh and blood woman, and if there's one thing I can't stand, it's a sad, desperate friend whose problems could be easily be remedied by a little sexual healin', whether it involve a cash transaction or not.

DesFIP -> RE: Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/14/2008 4:51:05 AM)

So why in the middle of a diatribe against Christians, did you feel the need to add an off topic attack against Orthodox Jewry? Why not Reform or Reconstructionists for that matter? Or Hindus?

KRANWEST -> RE: Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/14/2008 6:08:22 AM)

I don't get it.

Where's the "anti"-Christian diatribe?

The Pharisees were a popular socio-political sect during Christ's lifetime, who, consequently, played a large role in the daily lives of the demographic that Jesus was attempting to reach (the lost sheep of Israel.)   While Christ "honored" the law in a sense, he also preached a religion of sincerity.....of repentance.......of heartfelt conviction that extended beyond the mere skeleton of "tradition".  Unlike the Orthodox Jewish zealots that existed at the time of Christ, Jesus was an "apolitical" figure, who cared about the HEART of man, more than "laws."

For instance, I'm reminded of a couple friends of mine -- strict "Catholic boys" -- who try their damndest to tell me that eating meat on Good Friday can certainly get a person thrown into the fiery depths.  Of course, I quote none other than the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ:

Do ye not understand that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

even though your bible denounces sex outside of marriage?

KRANWEST -> RE: Missing Those "Deserved" Opportunities (For Christian Kinksters) (4/14/2008 6:26:06 AM)

It wouldn't be the first time I've sinned, and, unfortunately, it probably won't be my last.
