pahunkboy -> Obese discrimination is up ? (4/13/2008 10:02:37 AM)

http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1730150,00.html

When I watch sitcoms from the 70s-80s I notice comments -inuendo that are not as prevalent in todays TV.

I was thinking we sure looked like whores in the 80s.

everybody feels discriminated against for one reason or another.  we never outgrow the playground bullshit of picking on others it seems, it just becomes more subtle and more effective in injuring its target.

I got it, popeye.

We vote for government that actively discriminates against people who are addicted to smoking, with outrageous taxes and other overt retributions...

Why should people  who are addicted to eating be treated any better?

Sometimes lard-arses are not actually addicted to eating- weird but true

That's very true. In an attempt to gain the greatest competitive edge, the deck is being stacked against the people by the food industry. People are eating an increasing amount frankenfood, and food additives that make people gain weight.

Food intolerances and allergies often play a role as well. I know two women who each recently lost a great deal of weight from doing nothing more than simply eliminating the offending foods from their respective diets. They both report that they feel better and more energetic than they have for many years.

I'm old enough to remember the bumpersticker 'No Fat Chicks'.  Don't see that anymore.

The world is seriously out of whack.  We need a return to reality and self-discipline.  What we get is American Idol, Britnany Spears and Paris Hilton.  Bread and circuses, people.  Wake up.

hisannabelle -> RE: Obese discrimination is up ? (4/13/2008 1:44:15 PM)

y'all pretty much already know how i feel about this. in case you don't:
obesity discrimination is up? um, duh.

and the idea that obesity and being addicted to food are the same is why i think every single person should be required to take a class on obesity, eating disorders, food, weight, and body image in america before they're allowed to even interact with other people on any level.

BTW, look up 'The Paleolithic Diet'.  We are the product of 3.5 billion years of the sternest Mistress of them all...Mother Nature.  If you don't succeed better than anyone else, you die!  Yet somehow in the past 50 years we find vitamin C, vitamin E and other aspects of nutrition, and instantly decide, if a little is good, more is better!

Such hubris!  We never have been exposed to this much sugar and man-made fats in our diets.  Whole industries have been built around supplying us with what we want, not what we need.

Diet for a small planet is another good source.

This planet is heading for a major shake out.  Rising food costs may mean millions will starve.  This is so we can drive our cars and trucks to McDonalds, where we buy more garbage to eat.

I'm primarily vegetarian for health and moral reasons.  If I do eat meat, it tends to be sardines and humanely-raised livestock.  Yes, I am taking a life when I do it, but it is how God made us, and Nature has honed over the billions of years.

This, I think, will be coming back in vogue, the move back to 'real things'.  We must do this, or we will die out, taking much of the planet with us.

Erebus, you're in for it now!
Take away fat people's twinkies, donuts, Sara Lee's?
You'll see some fat people *running* then for sure!

Paleo eating is good for you.

Read Good Calories, Bad Calories, and NeanderThin, if you can find a copy.
