i like the way we've done it in my class because it's been very no stress, a few hours in the week only if you have the time, more if you have the time. for us it's a bit different because most of us want to learn tibetan language as well so of course that's a different commitment, and pretty much everyone is tibetan buddhist or has ties to tibetan buddhism, so it's also a bit of a spiritual endeavor. seriously, though...this is what i did in my life when it came to knitting, painting, photography, and everything else that i love. finally i just put in the time and money when i had it, and now i do it when i can and i try not to beat myself up over the rest of the time, if that makes any sense. i've been trying to find the time to learn to read arabic over the last couple months and i think i've gotten five letters into the whole alphabet, LOL. thankfully there is a sister who's going to help teach qur'an memorization and arabic reading and suchlike over the summer/fall online which will help get my ass in gear immensely. if you have a chance, i'd totally recommend checking around to see who in your area does calligraphy...just having some people to meet with for an hour or so a week who are interested in the same thing can be an amazing way to sort of keep it there and keep your focus there if it's hard. i know for me regardless of how much i love something, if i don't have some sort of impetus, i won't do it. and if you ever want to talk to me about it i'm here! :)
