first they closed the GP mill, and put 100s of loggers out of business.
now the fishing industry is shutting down.
theres nothing left but the hotels and the pot industry.
my hometown is doomed.

The bush economy is good though, not the george bush, the other bush[;)]

Seriously, those loggers will find work ,again. The wood product industry is far from dead.

Good luck over there.

Get involved in local politics and make a change then.

My hometown died during the textile shut down.  We build cars now, BMWs.  It will come back.
It is hard on a lot of us now.  As long as gas is over $3.00 per gallon, things slow or worse, stop.
I always knew I would have been better in the big town, but the small town is good enough for me,

Regards, MissSCD

lure drug treatment facilities.

a hazzardous waste superfund dump

build a prison.

the point is to "think outside the box"  there is ALWAYS work to be done.  figure out what YOU are good at- that solves a human want- that ppl areWILLING to pay for.

Sadly, the same has happened in many places in the U.S. I've been through it too. But there are things y'all can do to help each other and to rebuild your economy and community.

See if there is an interest in having a meeting to discuss ideas and options.

I dunno if produce and protein are raised in your area. Must be at least some. Try to buy as much as you can that is locally produced. The $ stays in the community. Try to build a network to trade goods and services. This also keeps Uncle Sam out of your pockets.

Finally, there are many communities that have gone through this. I've read (online) some very creative approaches that have been successful. Do some reasearch online and go to the community meeting with some ideas to kick around. It can be an exciting adventure. Good luck to y'all.

A lot of cities/towns are in decline. Flint Michigan comes to mind (since I live just a bit south of it).Detroit, much of Ohio. West Virginia. Some places won't ever recover and it sucks. Whole regions are having to find a new industry.

one could barter.  then it isnt just about money.   offer to clean a haircut shop in exchange for a haircut,  offer to wash a car in exchange for a ride.

there is ALWAYS work that needs done.
