EDIT: the second post was not up when i posted this. i withdraw my earlier statement.

we in the "civilized" well off countries need to start doing our part by not having so many kids, too! i think one of the people who has the right idea is that lady i saw on 20/20 once who was paying women addicted to drugs like crack no questions money to allow her to sterilize them... no questions as in she didn't care how they spent it... i'm not saying this as a person who is against the poor people who often become addicts, but as someone who knows that addicts make terrible parents (a little boy i know has a mommy who is one) and children who are raised in those homes will most likely be miserable anyway. and we need to change the culture problems we have like the catholic rules against birth control (can you hear me bene gesserit?) and the general ideas we have that if people choose not to have children when they get past a certain age that they're odd. we need celebrities to stop having babies publicly so that people feel the need to emulate them (either stupidly or subconciously) and start having more celebrities who set a good example by being sterilized themselves. *wonders if we could get paris hilton?* and the religous right need to realize that there being more chinese people than white people doesn't matter or get whatever other bee they have in their collective bonnet taken care of and get with the program and stop having people like that duggar family with the 16 kids or pharmacists who won't fill prescriptions for the pill.  and people who are trying to live in a way that's more western will start emulating that also. and more importantly, less people in the countries that use up the resources might make for less stress on the opressed countries.

I hear that aids is making great inroads in africa and asia-so there is still hope for the future.

I can't say for sure which of you is right, but he sounds a lot happier than you do.
