Remember the outbreak of Mumps in the mid-west US a few years ago? Officials say most of those who contracted the virus WERE given the MMR vaccine and the required booster shot. Now health officials are considering recommending a THIRD shot.

Dr. William Schaffner, head of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, said what's need is a longer-lasting shot.
"It's clear that over time, immunity wanes somewhat," he said. "We need a better vaccine."

Doesn't surprise me...

When I gave birth 8 years ago, the doctor came in and said I was no longer immune for Rubella and insisted that they gave me a booster before I left the hospital.

The MMR has been blamed for the rise in Autism to the point parents are claiming religious beliefs to avoid the vaccines and still have their children enrolled in school.
I can't help but think the fecal matter is going to meet the fan blades if the vaccines are deemed ineffective.

The MMR shot was the most painful shot I've ever gotten.

I don't remember my first dose, but on my second dose, my entire arm turned black and blue and it hurt for weeks afterwards.

Suppose it's better than the alternative, but still... guh. It was agony.
