A recent report by a Government watchdog group states that many members of Congress and the Senate, both Republican and Democrate have purchased stock in companies the government has given contracts to help in Iraq, this has been going on since the war started.  Yes it includes Obama, Clinton, and McCain.  And of course since the government gave these companies contracts, their stocks have gone up.

Now who in our government really wants to end this war?

HA, here's a hoot. Obama made some anti-war noises, what if he were elected and ended the war ?

If he sold his stock right before that, would that be called insider trading ? Let's put it this way, if you are the CEO of a company and you know some bad shit is going to hit the fan, and dump a bunch of your stock you might get a knock on the door from the SEC. In fact such moves even before changing vendors might be suspect.

What the heck am I talking about ? The law doesn't apply to them anyway.

wars have improved the victors standard of living.  we will see dazzling advances in teck  around the house due to the current war.

as to profiteering I have concluded that everyone sell out- even the CM crowd, would sell out.  the question is some require a higher price.

"feel good"  wont buy you a hamburger.    nor will it heat the house.   one needs pieces of silver for that.

My guess is that the watchdog group referenced is the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) Link: http://www.opensecrets.org/

This surprises people? The old biblical referenced brought up to date would say; "It is easier for a poor man to fit through the eye of a needle than to be elected to Congress in the USA."

PACS pay for campaigns people. They expect a return on investment just like any other source of funds. Sometimes they let thier employees in on the profits.

However, to be fair; everyone having a mutual fund investment also has some "war profiting" in their portfolio.

Here's a detailed article:

quote:

US lawmakers have a financial interest in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, a review of financial documents has revealed. Members of Congress invested nearly $196 million of their own money in companies that receive hundreds of millions of dollars a day from Pentagon contracts to provide goods and services to US armed forces, say nonpartisan watchdog groups. Lawmakers charged with overseeing Pentagon contractors hold stock in those very firms, as do vocal critics of the war in Iraq, says the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP)

In all, 151 current members of Congress - more than one-fourth of the total - have invested between $78.7 million and $195.5 million in companies that received defense contracts of at least $5 million, according to CRP.

Senator John Kerry, the Democrat from Massachusetts who staked his 2004 presidential bid in part on his opposition to the war, tops the list of investors. His holdings in firms with Pentagon contracts of at least $5 million stood at between $28.9 million and $38.2 million as of December 31, 2006. Kerry sits on the Senate foreign relations panel.

Members of Congress are required to report their personal finances every year but only need to state their assets in broad ranges.

Other top investors include Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen, a New Jersey Republican with holdings of $12.1 million-$49.1 million; Representative Robin Hayes, a North Carolina Republican ($9.2 million-$37.1 million); Republican Representative James Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin ($5.2 million-$7.6 million); and Representative Jane Harman, a California Democrat ($2.7 million-$6.3 million).

Senator Jay Rockefeller, the Democrat and former governor of West Virginia who chairs the Senate Select Intelligence Committee, invested some $2 million in Pentagon contractors. Source: http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_id=10&categ_id=3&article_id=90809
