Tensions rise as police raid Texas polygamist compound

A standoff is brewing at a West Texas compound linked to jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs Saturday, a day after authorities removed dozens of girls and women from the ranch.

Texas Child Protective Services said 137 girls and 46 women were removed, but wouldn't say why, said Reuters. Local reports said they were removed by buses and vans and were being housed temporarily in churches and government buildings.
Eldorado is about 325 kilometres northwest of San Antonio and has a population of about 2,000.

The issues with religious poly settings is consensuality is often gray at best. We abhor teachers having relationships with high school students; when they are religious teachers it's an anathma.

Whoa. Wait. Before we get all teary-eyed and man the Barricades to help these "poor polyamorists under siege" DO YOU HAVE A FREAKING CLUE WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE?

This is possibly the most radical of the hate-filled, violent, women-destroying "Fundamentalist Mormon" sects (even using that term is fraught with misunderstanding) that have been spawned from the reign of Rulon Jeffs and his son Warren. Please, read up on these people before you breathe another word linking them to ANYTHING "Polyamory".

Read Jon Krakauer's brilliant book "Under the Banner of Heaven" for probably the most compelling, well researched and fairly dispassionate account of Mormon Fundamentalists.

And if you have any doubts, remember something: If you are a member of CollarMe, the odds are pretty good that these people would kill you for what you do and what you believe. No ha ha. No smirks. They would, given the ability to not get caught, destroy you and everything you treasure.

Events like this makes those of us that are poly look bad to those out side the lifestyle but poly and MORMON Polyamory are whole different things,Not the Mormon church but the off shoot fundamentals,Those that serve me ,serve and share my bed because they choose too but not the case for theses young "ONES"force to marry and serve these old men.....bounty

If this was the first generation of this group I'd agree with you whole heartedly but this is roughly the 5th generation since this cult got started.

At this point all these people have lived in this community with these practices as standard for the enitre lives of these people, their parents and grandparents. Locking up all the male members and most of the adult women in the group seems a tad extreme.

At some point we need to find a way to integrate most of these people into the larger society and put an end to their nonconsensual polygamy.

It drives me nuts that this shit is even somewhat tied to the various alternative lifestyle and such. I don't see where these particular individuals have anything worth mentioning in common with anyone that frequents this board. I find this Warren Jeffs to be an old perve. Consent or not, I think his teachings are manipulative and misguided. He is disrupting the natural order of things through decpetion and deceit.

Listen, I know I don't agree with every life choice folks make, but when you have to hide your intentions and activities that should say something about your motives and results.

Coming from St George Utah I can tell you I see the Pligs All the time. NO THAT IS NOT POLY.

I was confused when I read the original thread because I thought there was a Polyamory Group and I wanted to know WHY they were raided.

Trust me even in Utah Polygamy is not looked highly upon.

Just wanted to make sure there was no confusion on what is what here.

Being forced to call master and given a choice are HUGE and definitive in the truth of the relationship. This group of women is born into this without ever a choice in when or who they marry and serve....true 'slaves'. They are victims of their environment. They are not much treasured but abused, their beatings received without consent. This is a legal action, long and slow coming, of which I approve. This group hides behind a religion that absolutely does not serve the God that I know and love.

I would hate the thought that these people could be defined or linked to what I define as a Master/slave relationship.

My new glasses must need adjusting...where does the OP saying anything about polyamory? the title says Poly Group, which could mean polyamory or polygamy to the OP, and the link says polygamist..so I'll assume she meant a polygamy group.

Either way this group of misogynic pedophiles that hide behind their "religion" need to be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Of course they are going to scream "but its our religion!" because they think that will get them off the hook, justify their actions or perhaps garner some sympathy/support for their current situation.

Most of what you have put here is simply inaccurate here. The Belief system is a RELIGIOUS one, it goes back further that 5 gens and it is only a cult in that the definition of cult is "any Organized religion" so in that even Christianity is a Cult.

It is FAR from Nonconsentual, there are issues, but no different than in any community group. There are Good and Bad.

I am NOT defending them. I have a Bigger issue with that because the marriages aren't legal most of the women are on food stamps and with no legal Husband to support thier family they get nearly 1200 a month in Food stamps and when you multiply that by 3 wifes for each family there is 3600 of Tax dollars going out to feed them because our government isn't willing to put better regulations on Food Stamps and Government abused programs like Medacaid and Income Assistance.

I just wanted you all to know that MOST of your views that come from "Big Love" the HBO show and from the media and BOTH are not accurate. I live here I see and talk with them daily. I know some Former Pligs and they are Honest about what goes on. The Media and Warren Jeffs have made them ALL out to be what only SOME of them are.

We have been asked to stop discussing UM's period so I will refrain from comments other than I know some of them personally and it is NOT something that is required, it happend yes but NOT regularly in Milinium Park which is a city outside of colorado city it is never allowed at all. I am an hour and a half from colorado city they shop in town regularly I have talked to many of the men and have gotten many clear cut answers to the questions I have asked.

In Construction in Utah you will work both For and With MANY of them. I got to know some I liked and many I didn't so again mind you I am NOT defending them I just like the FACTS to be accurate.

Where you are correct the *F*LDS has only been organized since 1920's Pologamy was practiced by Joseph Smith HIMSELF and is documented in the Doctrines and Covenants and was WIDELY Practiced and is STILL practiced Secretly among MANY of the Regular LDS Persuasion. In fact if go to a Mormon even and are introduced to a Mans Wife and HER Sister chances are he is Married to Both of them. It is a Code that you will recognize among those of the LDS Persuauion in Nephi and Some of the Smaller Towns in Utah it is a very common practice in Cities that have Temples among them or as a Prominant Religious mark.

The Practice of Polygamy was seen as the only way to get to the HIGHEST LEVEL of heaven according to the Older parts or the DaC and even though the current Leaders of the LDS Church have adamently spoken against it there are Many in the LDS Faith (Not Just the FLDS) that believe this was Gods will and Practice in Secret.

Like I said I LIVE around the Polygamists and I deal with them in Business as well as my Private life I know MANY of them. Where your statements DO apply to some, they do not aplly to All or even MOST of them.

The views you have seem to be Media based as everything you have said has been plugged in the media a LOT however if you actually READ the DaC you will see it was not always a BAD practice at one time it had a purpose today it has become a perverse act. Something Sad and abused by those who see that they can abuse it.
