Was walking down to the pier yesterday morning to grab a newspaper and got to wondering…..does anyone buy newspapers anymore?

Any paper of decent size seems to be on line now.  The only day I buy one is Sunday and that’s for the crossword.

So anyway, if you do, I’d love to hear it and would love to hear why.

first of all, i really wish i could walk down to the pier!  i'm hopelessly land locked right now.

i buy the Sunday paper most of the time because i like the variety of things that are in it...crossword, coupons, recipes, want ads and classifieds, letters to the editor, human interest stories...it's just fun to cruise around and read about things the Sunday paper offers.

I seldom do anymore, except the Sunday paper. It occasionaly has some things I haven't found online.

The Houston Chronicle stopped selling in my county a couple of weeks ago, due to lagging sales.

Ahhh yes, coupons! Those come in handy sometimes.

it would be even more handy if i'd remember to actually use them when i shop....there's just something about sitting on the living room floor with the paper all over the place, cutting them out.  i guess i'm easily amused...

it's a deal, Level...except for boobage and smoochies, the least you could do is stuff the sock puppet.

I subscribe to the local newspaper.  the online version doesnt always have the full article. the TV doesnt cover the area. if you live or work here- it is THE way to know what is going on.

We purchase a total of 4 newspapers on a daily basis.  About to add a 5th.  Why?  I still have relatives living in Southern California and want to know what is going on there.
We purchase our towns newspaper here...to know what is happening here.
Our counties newspaper here because it tells you a bit more about the news than the daily newspaper..only comes out once a week.
We also purchase grandmas small town newspaper to know what is happening with her that she may not remember to tell us.

Our closest television station is 85 miles away and while they "claim" to report here where we live.  They rarely if ever actually have.  How else would you get local news?  Especially if you don't have the time nor inclination to go to the local coffee shop daily.

I stopped all papers a few years ago because I was tired of the amount of paper trash that I ended up with.

the  TV "markets" divy up the map, and "claim" to rep my small town as well.  AND it costs $6 + tax to get those channels. So I vote with my feet, and dont subscribe to the "local" channels.

Depending on what method you use to get your local channels you can go either way.  Meaning Sioux City, Iowa or Lincoln, Nebraska.  We went the Iowa way.
It's gotten much better.  Now they include some news with their fluff.  When we first moved here it was all fluff.  You could have a gang shoot out killing 200 in your backyard and the news wouldn't report it.

Although you complain enough to the right people, things change.  You'd think a crime wave hit Sioux City in the last year.  Must be hard for the old timers to realize crime is rampant in their neighborhoods.

Anyway, we have a guy here in town who is the reporter for the news.  One of the channels.  I know him, he has interviewed me a couple of times now.  I've been on him as well.  You never know what the future may bring.

Only until the puppy is trained.

Our local paper is online, but a lot gets left off the site.  I'm a bit of a 'letters to the editor' junkie.

I read both the local newspaper as well as the Buffalo news for two reasons. The first is work related – we (the family business that is) do a lot of advertising and need to check that they got it right (you’d be surprised how much damage one typo can do). The second (and call me an old fart if you want to) is that I simply enjoy relaxing in my easy chair with the paper. Somehow, it’s just not the same with a laptop.

every now and then the sunday paper. if i ever got my compost pile going, would buy it on a more regular basis.

nothing better than a sunday morning cuppa, curled up in bed with the newspaper strewn around you.

I get the NYT and the Washington Post - and the sunday edition of the former is part of my sunday morning ritual. I miss British newspapers terribly - online just isn't the same thing. I'm an old-fashioned newspaper reader: I need tangible news in my hands.

And old newspapers are indispensable to make papier-mâché  .

i stopped getting the local paper because they completely screwed up my account and it's nearly impossible to get rid of them...also because of the paper trash. i really don't like reading the news most of the time. usually nyt, usa today, and the local newspaper are available on campus (sometimes for free), so a few days out of the week i will get usa today (for the crossword...i always forget to print it out), and occasionally i'll buy a sunday local paper from somewhere.

I get the paper daily, right inside by screen door delivered by a real, live paper delivery person. I read it all and do the crossword and sudoku every day. I am a supreme nerd.

Do you sudoku?
