So is the Autobahn.  So I guess we should stand next to interstate ramps and protest people driving on them.  Modern rocketry was started by the Nazis, so I guess we should protest all rocket launches now.

I often wonder why all those middleclass protesters (most sounded middleclass in interviews on the news) decide on Tibet as something worth protesting about rather something closer to home. I have a sneaking suspicion they can appear radical without rocking their own comfy boat.

As the Australian Prime Minister said, one shouldn't be complacent but one should judge the Chinese by how far they have come in the last 30 years. China is liberalising, not fast enough for its opponents (their opponents find that convenient) but it is going the right way. In China's case constructive engagement will probably yield more results than isolating them (though how does one isolate 1.3 billion people?). However, the rise of China will cause more and more opposition to them so they might as well get used to it.

I still think London made a big mistake in winning the right to hold the 2012 Olympics, they should pass that liability on to Paris even if it is a humiliation. The Olympics are fascistic and always were, even in ancient Greece.

Status: offline 		It's too early. The Olympics should have been an award for when China fully democratizes. Now it's going to be a mess and there is going to be protests all the way up and through the games.

The protesters have it wrong.

The should stage dummy Olympic torches so much so, that the media gets confused as to where the real torch is.  That would NOT be hard to do.  Especially since the mainstream media is a lapdog  for the powerful.

Imagine 2 dozen torches all in motion.  All with the carnival flavor of a World Trade Organization protest?

It would be remarkable.

The Olympics has always been a political toy, look at the USA and USSR boycotts in the 80s. Apart from that the Olympics are fascist in nature and the IOC is totally corrupt so they can't really point the finger at anyone.

Cyberdude, we might agree that China is wrong on Tibet but fpor a country that illegally invaded another, (USA and lapdog) we are in no position to complain about China.

As I pointed out previously, for some reason the middleclasses seem to enjoy protesting about Tibet but are a little reluctant to protest about injustices nearer to home because they might have to make sacrifices themselves.

Status: offline 		Its too late now, the torch bearing ceremony has turned into a media spectacle for show offs whose actions will do nothing whatsoever to help the people of Tibet and who conveniently forget, probably didn't even know ,  that the Tibetans had murdered innocent Chinese people and burned their businesses. 
These protesters are set upon adding their political slant to what should be the top international sporting event where people of all races and backgrounds can compete for the honours at stake.
Tho' to reach the standard required to compete is honour enough.IMO
The proper target for the current feigned outrage is  the committee who awarded the Games to China in the first place.

If they manage to diminish and maybe even wreck the Olympics then I suppose they will be pleased with themselves but I find it difficult to understand why. Certainly as a consequence nothing whatsoever will change in China or Tibet except it may cause the Chinese regime to adopt an even more hard line approach.

It would be very interesting to know how many protesters have in fact bought Chinese goods over the last few years.

GPS is irreplacable in the Aviatiom industry.  GPS units are used to track fleet vehicles.  You cant read a map when on a motorcycle.
There is too many uses for GPS in every day life that people dont appericate.
I can read a map, I cant drive and read a map at the same time.

Of course it is about Tibet.  If you really believe it was about human rights, you must then believe that it would be better for all Tibetans to be under the control of the Monks as they were before, and that is simply not the case.
Hence, it is not about Human Rights - but political agendas.
