I like what my Sir euphemistically calls "one-handed books" - that is, books that you read with one hand, because the other hand is occupied  . I would be interested to know favourite bdsm fiction books and authors of the readers of these forums.

For example, I love the "Beauty" series by Anne Rice. Well written, HOT as hell, and fun! What more could a girl need?

Pretty much anything published by Black Lace Publishing is good, also Emma Holly and Lora Leigh are pretty hot. I'm a voracious reader, email me if you want more ideas.

Take care,
Jo

Pat Califia's erotic fiction is some of the steamiest on the planet, if you ask me (and you did) :
Macho Sluts
Melting Point
Doing it For Daddy
No Mercy

Also, if you don't mind a little M2M action, you might try looking up some of Aaron Travis's BDSM fiction:

Big Shots
Slaves of the Empire

Beyond that, I'd say cruise the bookstores for anyting by Suzie Bright, Carol Queen, Gord, or Eric Stanton. Midori has been turning out some great BDSM fiction, and certianly you can't go too far wrong with Cecilia Tan, and her publishing house, Circlet Press.

Personally i found the "Beauty" series to be a little bit samey by the end of the second book.. Was gutted because i really enjoy Anne Rice's books usually.

i'm with softness on this one.. DeSade rocks

x

I've been told that my own books have one-hand fiction in them by a few folks. Some may think they need to be interested in femdom/malesub to enjoy my stories but most of those "one-handed" comments have come to be from male doms, female subs, and gay men.

i personally enjoyed The Marketplace series by Laura Antoniou. It's a bit more serious then the Beauty series, but still a good read with plenty of "one handed" moments.

I've always been very fond of The Story of O by Pauline Reage as well as the deSade books.

Marquis De Sade was awesome. Silver Moon books are usually entertaining enough. The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty's Punishment and Beauty's Release by Anne Rice are good books. Coming to Power is a great book of lesbian S&M. Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (check him out) is also good. One last one; The Ties That Bind is also a really good BDSM oriented book.

The "Beauty" series has never held any appeal for me nor do I ever plan on reading it. It would pretty much take a direct order and even then I would plead my case. I prefer much more subtle power exchanges in my reading.

Well, I think I'll defend Anne on this one. As one handed reading, Rice's "Beauty" trilogy is perfectly good, solid erotica. There is a story arc, and a definite beginning, middle and an end to the episodic action. It's not all just fluff (which is where I'd put most of Penthouse's publications) Yes, the trysting tends to get repedative. (Which is why Anne gave up on continuing the series- at least according to her official biography.) But I think it all in good fun, and certainly not deserving of the kind of dirision that some give them.

Way at the top, you have truly poetic works like "O" and "Venus in Furs."

Somewhere in the middle, you have Anne Rice, Pat Califia, the Marketplace series, and a host of others.

Down at the bottom, you have junk like Penthouse, novels by anonymous, Norman, the erotic novels of Ed Wood, and all the other crap that is printed in those awful little digest mags that you find in a dark, mouldering corner of your favorite adult bookstore next to the highway.

The difference between them are the same citeria you'd use when judging regular fiction: plot, character, text, subtext.

You can defend her all you like, and certainly many people enjoy her books (I assume you are talking to me since I think I'm the only person who has commented negatively about her). However, there are many factors that come into play about my choice to never read any of her books, but when it comes specifically to the Beauty books: if I'm going to read something to masturabate to that sex better not get repetitive or it's not worth reading when I can read books where the sex isn't repetitive and is story much more arousing to me than the entire concept of the Beauty series.

Overhere hardly any one heard of Rice till the Vampire movie came out. Suddenly it was hot....mostly for females, because the vampire theme was homosexual orientated. Well never read it..so can't judge about that content actually.

Aquatic, I wasn't talking to you specifically... this sort of thread has been brought up time and again. I was responding more to the general feeling that a lot of folks seem to have about the "Beauty" trilogy.

Your opinion, about the repitition in the novels, is perfectly valid. Personally, I prefer the pony scenes in books two and three... about the only thing that really caught my eye in the first book was the "spit roasting" one of the Princes got when bound to a statue. But, I stick with my previous assesment: they're perfectly good whacking material.

Oh they are good to wank to, I'm sure - if you enjoy the sort of material in there. Which I don't at all. But since I've heard many people complain about how repetitive it is, and having a basic concept of the story, I wouldn't put it anywhere near as high on the ranking as you do.

Different tastes and all that.

Yeah, to each their own. :)

Which is why I reccommended Pat Califia's work before Anne's. I just don't want people to get the idea that the books aren't without some merit.
