I do not believe that any disabilty is an excuse, but it is a reason.  I taught my um's, who all had LD's or illness of some sort to never, ever use these things to get out of anything or as an excuse.  It is a matter of honor and honesty in a way.  If you are being honest and not using the problems to get out of something, then the people in your life can trust that and when something does crop up, there is no issue!  They know you simply had a problem with something.  Being accountable is the key.

It isn't right to punish someone for something they cannot control.  It is when the wrong choice is made and covered up that the problems crop up.

YourhandMyAss - LD's are not considered a mental illnesses/nor are individuals mentally unstable because of it. Emotionally unstable possibly, since LD's can effect how one perceives themselves... but mentally unstable no.

Having two ums with problems; get a whiteboard. They forget everything but if the list of stuff to do is written down on a whiteboard, then they do one thing and check it off, do the second and check it off, etc. I'm no longer irritated because they forgot, I don't have to sit next to them while they do things, I just write the list and then they are able to handle it.

we have that problem I have ADHD and half the time Daddy will ask me to do something like clean the living room or do dishes and I'll either forget or start and then forget what i'm doing and not finish. I don't think he see's it as passive agressive  but he does see me as lazy. Which I kinda am but not always on purpose.

I know exactly what you mean[;)] I have ADHD aswell and I forget things constantly. Master has to remind me to take my meds because he knows I forget sometimes. He has called me lazy too and I hate that because I don't mean to be.
