It seems that at least twice a week, we see posts about abuse, lack of respect for safe words, etc etc, so if you poopoo half of those as whiners anyway--ok lets say we have maybe 2 a month that are legitimate overkills ( an abuser versus an intelligent skilled toy craftsman, a rapist, etc).

Do you really think WIITWD is more dangerous than it was 10,15 20 years ago? Do you think it just gets more press? Do you think its become the scapegoat?

No.  Like many others have posted before me, I think the net contributes to hearing about the horror stories.   Society is wrapped up in the drama of anything, especially things considered outside of the "norm", whether that is BDSM, trying to solicit sex in a bathroom, a celebrity not wearing underwear, a drug overdose, etc. I also think the media jumps at anything they think will make the biggest headlines.  It kind of reminds me of  some threads I've read that all I could do was shake my head and wonder if the OP was simply trying to get attention or if it really happened.

No, I don't think it's more physically dangerous.  If anything, I think it's less so, with all the folks waving their safety banners.  There's more media attention, and more outlets for the train wrecks to talk about their drama, is all.

Ditto.  This is why I don't post more.  Seems by the time I see it whatever I wanted to say has already been said.

I sympathize.  Usually it's a matter of  "Well, taken in aggregate, I don't suppose I can much improve on that."

And yet... Sometimes, I yield to the temptation anyway. :-)

Well I think that the Internet opened a whole new hunting ground for predators. Just like any sort of dating with a stranger, you have to be very carefull and never to compromise your safety.

Wiitwd can make us feel lonely and somewhat desperate to meet a partner, so perhaps more people let their gards down and take risks. In that perspective, yes, it does make us more vulnerable.
