Thanks for the info, LadyEllen. I guess if you don't want to be female, 'damage' to the uterus or fallopian tubes will not be seen as such a negative thing, but rather as another step toward becoming male. Taking into consideration your info on the changes caused by the hormones, this story just smacks of the pregnancy being planned. I have no problem at all with individuals seeking a sex change, I just think that if you so strongly feel that you are the opposite sex, you would not feel inclined to go back to the original.

I'm not sure its that clear cut for some, especially those of us (the majority I believe) who are not "primary TS", for whom the need to transition only becomes clear in adulthood.

Its something I've considered in some depth; right now, whilst I've been on hormones for six years, and have had breast enlargement (the hormones only do so much in that department!), I havent yet had the SRS. To be honest, for me its not that important - what is important is being able to live normally in the social sense as female, which I have achieved pretty much. SRS does not enable that - passing well does; personally I assess someone's sex by their appearance and to date have never asked to look in their knickers to establish it!

What if by some miraculous happenstance, I met a woman who was interested in me? Whilst on balance I would in the normal course of events go for SRS to finish the job, it isnt that important to me, and having considered it a while, if it were the case that she would prefer me to stay as I am, (and get a truckload of viagra if you know what I'm saying....!), then that would be OK.

Now, I'm expecting some flames for saying that - which is also OK. I get raised eyebrows all the time for insisting on being truthful rather than conforming to diagnostic criteria and/or expectations. Better to be honest I feel, than to trot out what people want or expect to hear, like the hordes of people who get coached on what to say and make the wrong decision.

the only thing hormones (estrogen) create are breasts (as far as parts).  that tube was always there from birth and likely this person is intersexed.

the male in topic (i didnt read the article) is messed up.  and needs therapy.  NO FTM i have ever known or talked to wants anything to do with being female.  they  have hysto's, removal of breasts, and take testosterone.  the only thing that usually isnt done is SRS due to cost ($60K) and lack of technology for ftm surgery as its not perfected yet.

apparently....... she does have XY chromosomes like a normal male (if there is such a thing)........ but, looking at her, and I mean size/build, facial features and so on, there is absolutely no way anyone would think other than female. I was well pleased when I met her at a support group near here and the first thing she said was "wow, I bet you have no problem passing?" - always nice to hear from women (who are generally better "spotters" I find) and joked back, thinking she was a woman "thanks, I bet its the same for you!" I was astounded to learn her background during the following conversation.

Since then, I've come more and more round to the idea that we dont know much about intersex conditions apart from when they are presented obviously at birth or puberty, and that some who are genetically "normal" and are seen as TS may actually just be another less obvious form of intersex.

then is likely as i said...she is intersexed.  keeping in mind that most intersexed people NEVER know about their condition.  they are rarely told and are rarely able to choose with the genitals almost always being taken at birth without knowledge.  but now a days the baby's are generally untouched.  dr's cant play GOD anymore for fear of being sued for mal practice.  something that couldnt be done when i was born.

of course she is xy.  as am i.  though it is possible to be xx, and xxy, and some other combinations.

I read about that as well... the man's name is Lee Mingwei, the baby hasn't been born yet and apparently he's doing this as some sort of art project.  I could be wrong but that's the impression I got from the website which is www.malepregnancy.com.

I really try not to be judgemental but I can't wrap my head around that.

no idea where you got it that it was some sort of art project, that isnt it at all.. hes doing it for his wife because she wants a baby but cannot have one herself.

"I stopped taking my bimonthly testosterone injections," Beatie told the magazine. "It had been roughly eight years since I had my last menstrual cycle, so this wasn’t a decision that I took lightly," Beatie said. "My body regulated itself after about four months, and I didn’t have to take any exogenous estrogen, progesterone, or fertility drugs to aid my pregnancy." Beatie says Nancy had a hysterectomy 20 years ago, and that's when they started thinking about Beatie carrying their child."

I read through the site and thought, "wow, this is neat."

Until the logical side of my brain kicked in and I decided to "Snopes" it.

http://www.snopes.com/pregnant/malepreg.asp

Good hoax though!

I was referring to a story about another man, Lee Mingwei, becoming "pregnant".  That's why I posted the link to the other story.  Sorry if that was confusing.

MissSCD -> RE: Pregnant Dad (4/6/2008 6:41:35 AM)

I cannot figure out how he could afford all the surgery for this.   He/she was on Oprah this week.  Sad.  He/she is so proud.
The sad part is that I had to explain to my 76 year old mother how this happened.
I don't think we will be having a vaginal birth.   It will be c section more than likely.
Can a man be called a woman with ovaries?  I don't think so.

Regards, MissSCD
