I'm wary of anything Putin suggests. Seriously. I look at that man and see pure evil. Then again I guess I'm kind of biased because of my heritage, but still... he gives me the creeps in a very bad way.

As was pointed on the discussion of Air America a couple weeks back, a high percentage of growth doesn't mean much when you are starting from fucking near zero. The London to New York rail connection is pure fluff, anachronistic fill from a reporter who doesn't grasp the story. This is about the ability to move freight, not tourists. That $60 billion number that is getting thrown around? Anybody researched this deeply enough to know if that is just the hole in the ground, or does it cover the connecting lines and inland port facilities? A poll a few years ago showed less than half the people living in central and eastern Russia considered life "bearable." Russia's economy is growing fast but right now it isnt very big and it is very vulnerable.

Plus you would still have to put in a train line from Whitehorse,Yukon Territory to Whales Alaska, for the tunnel to be of any use. But Jobs in my state, lets build it.

A couple of years ago I went on a hiking holiday through though the Cherisky Range and our group never saw a Russian for five days, apart from our guide that is. Russia is facing a demographic crisis, even Putin said that immigration is not going to solve the problem. I was thinking Archer with his guns and rugged individualism might emigrate, it is the nearest he's ever going to get to the Wild West and it will stop him becoming tamed and nationalized.
