Termyn8or -> RE: It would be easy to take over the world (3/30/2008 10:40:45 PM)

There are again two sides. Global temperatures are largely regulated by the balance of energy absorbed from the Sun vs the energy emitted. This is the largest single factor that affects the climate globally. We humans occupy the skin of this planet. Very little we can do can have any significant effect on the global temperature. What happens is that we might get warmer in the areas we inhabit, but the fact still remains that each year we recieve X amount of energy from the sun and we emit X amount of enregy at the same time. The specific balance of these two factors is what makes our lives possible, and is pretty difficult to manipulate. Now with global warming they are talking surface temperatures, and on an average basis, because we know they vary. Now we could cloud up the atmosphere to the point where we become like Venus, but that does not change the energy balance. It might get hotter on the surface, but all we really do is scorch ourselves. The fact of the matter is, if global warming is a reality, there will be plenty of water around in which to cool one's self. But on the other hand we got some other factors. We are taking things out of the ground and burning them at an unprecedented rate. And everythig we do makes heat. Even your AC unit, it does not destroy heat it pumps it outside, along with the heat it makes on it's own. In fact there is heat involved in generating the electricity to run it in the first place. Everything we do involves heat, even nuclear reactions power steam generators. Everything you do makes heat, even if it is to cool something. Every time you move your body makes heat, sometimes even when you just think ! Even putting a bowl of Jello in the fridge makes heat, you open the door and the compressor soon kicks on. Now multiply that by how many people there are in the world. I used to poopoo the idea, but knowing what I know now, I am listening. I see no proof, in fact I have seen evidence to the contrary, but I can't say that we shouldn't be going through a cooling period and Man is interfering with that. All I know is this, all the studies I've read all have one thing in common if they cover this point, CO2 levels are rising. Alot. This would cause a blanket effect such as Venus is going through right now, it would change the climate drastically. But if it increases the temperature at the surface, the core will cool down. See there is a law of nature, planets are adibiatic, that is they do not gain or lose heat. As long as the orbit is the same, it will equalize at a certain temperature, it's an equilibrium sort of. Yes there are variances, but in that respect they are minor, What we must concern ourselves with are the surface conditions. And with that, and the immensity of the human race, I simply can't dismiss the idea anymore the we indeed do harm the environment. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just stop ? But I have to get to work. T
