Its more like 50,000 jobs Kittin - if the plant goes, so do the component suppliers, the transport companies, the warehousing and logistics providers etc. And they in turn take out another swathe of their suppliers. Personally, I really can see no reason why lower cost Indian labour cannot produce a Land Rover or Jaguar for much less at the same quality, for what little labour is involved. If one has the designs and one has the facilities, its only a matter of someone else doing whats done in the UK. Its really a question about whether the quality image of the brands can be maintained if theyre made in India - which doesnt have anything to do with how good the quality actually is, regardless of which side of the Khyber Pass theyre made.
