what do you think..... would i be able to pass through going on greyhound from canada to the usa??

i have a current passport in my old name thats good till 15 july 2008.
my name was changed (first, second name but not last name) in 2006.

i have birth cert with new name, health card with new name, old health card in old name, and my current passport in old name.  i also have the official change of name forms for proof and it has both my names on it.

health card is like a drivers license.  i dont have a DL.

im wondering if it will be good enough since its only greyhound borders...they are more lenient than going by air.  only thing is...my passport pic...omg what a HUGE difference in my current body/looks. LOL.  196 lbs then (and quite male looking with much shorter hair and fatter face...  but you could probably still tell its me.  that pic was taken in 2002...before any major changes.

maybe it's just me but with any form of identification i would make sure all of the information is up to date.you should see what some of the greyhound station due here in the states.i've been at many where they have checked for id along with id tags on baggage, random baggage checks while in line waiting for the bus, when it is spoososed to leave in 5 minutes and they start at that 5 minute leaving mark to do so(lazy). security making sure you have a ticket and id matching the ticket before you can even enter the station and prove you ar in fact a passenger before they even let you in the building.good old US security measures. so yeah update all of  you id before travel.hell my US Passport was issued in 2002 when in the pic i am about 185lbs.since i've lost weight and moved so before i think of traveling outside of the US i am ablsolutly going to make sure all info on my passport is up to date with matching info on my state issued ID card. Boader checks can also be a tricky thing.i once went to Canada and had a resident there i knew coming back to the states with us and one thing was off on her ID and we were all detained untill it was straightened out.

so best bet play it safe and be up to date i cannot emphasise that enough in this day and age.

coming into canada they did nothing on our bus...didnt even have to bring out our baggage...they just let us through into canada...no more than 10 minutes tops in that detroit station.

in 2002 when i went all i needed was my birth certificate and health card...nothing else.  last time i went was 2004 when i had this passport.  i will get a new one..but if i can go through using my current one..then that saves me $120 and can get the new one done when i come back.

Yep, go get your passport.  Homeland security are not people you want to be arguing with over the validity of your documents.  Since your passport is expiring in less than 6 months they won't like that.  I'm not certain if the Ontario Health card is an acceptable residency document for US border folks.

I had the pleasure of visiting with border officals from DHS at least once a year for 8 years (well ok, they weren't always DHS in that period) to secure my Visa to work in the US.  Since 9/11 they've been brutally strict.  I've been back in Canada close to 2 years now, I don't miss the border hassles one bit.

I'm surprised that walmart down in your area doesn't do passport photos! The walmart here does.

yes it is a very good gov't form of ID here and accepted at border.  keep in mind in 2002 i used that health card and birth certificate...without problems to get into usa.  that was a full year after 911.. because i went for my 32nd birthday to california.  to meet someone i met online thru alt.

of course...at that time (in the 90s) i was in big deep depression...didnt care about my body and nearly ended up killing self (unintentionally) because my body couldnt take all the crap i was eating anymore since i was 200 lbs with my heart condition.  i got fed up and said fuck this i am going to be who i want to be not what society wants me to be nor what my family/friends want me to be...im going to be who i am...  you see the result now.  135 lb petite female...

When I was up getting a passport, the guy ahead in line said he was going on vacation with a passport that would expire a few weeks after he got back and that he had been told it had to be good for six months beyond the time you would be out of the country. The clerk said that was correct and he had to go to the emergency passport renewal, which is a 3 hour drive from here, and wait on line all day. Otherwise he would have major trouble getting back into the country.

I don't know if those rules apply to foreign nationals but I wouldn't be surprised. Call your passport bureau and ask.

We just went to a camera store to get the pictures. Look in the phone book under camera stores, some of them will advertise passport photos taken.

Only if it is the newer version with the photo , the original red and white ones are useless

They will not replace the red and white one unless it is lost or damaged  as explained to me when I have asked about getting the  new one ...and they are definitely  valid for medical usage ....  mine had  been extremely  well used ... way too much for my liking since December, 2 surgeries ..3 emergency   visits, and a number of assorted doctor visits,  for rechecks and further tests, as well as trips to the lab for bloodwork  and each time I must present my red and white health  card, my card is still  my original first one issued

Talking to my docs office, they told me to keep hold of my red n white one, because the green ones have to be renewed, and is another method of gouging more money out of you.But I do know that its NOT valid for crossing to the US (neither the red or the green).
This from the site I mentioned earlier
Entry of Citizens of Canada
Citizens of Canada are exempt from the visa and passport requirement of Immigration and Nationality Act (section 212(a)(7).) To enter the United States, a Canadian citizen must be able to establish both identity and citizenship. Documents that may establish citizenship are:

  • Birth certificate
  • Citizenship certificate
  • Passport.

Although a CBP officer may accept an oral declaration of citizenship, it is recommended that a Canadian citizen carry a document that establishes citizenship. Under current procedures, all travelers may be required to present photo-identification.
I only have a UK Passport, but I have my PR(Perm Resident card) and I freak out that Im gonna lose one of them one day and not be able to visit again.
