subspace is basically different for everyone.  It can be almost anything that sends someone there, and the feeling of it can be very different from person to person.

My personal subspace comes from pain, and equates to almost detatching from myself, blacking out and/or floating sensations.

Well, first of all, I'm sorry, honey, but get a spell-checker. I could hardly read that.
For how to tell a sub is in subspace, ask a Dom.
Subspace is a lot of things to a lot of people. It's an endorphine release, a sort of return to the wild for natural submissives. It can be million and one physical feelings, but the basic emotion, at least for me, is this: I've been brought farther than I myself could go. It's a little like drowning in the nicest, hottest bath ever.
As for how to bring a sub in and out, think instinct and basic animal training. If you know nothing about these, go find out. Your college must have a library.

Dunno, you'd have to ask R... haha somehow he knows exactly when I'm out, and how deep I am, and when to stop. Hehe ^_^

For me, it's like I'm intensely focusing on nothing. Which.. makes no sense but whatever. It's also really freaking hard to say anything, haha.

the body talks when the sub doesn't,  so one needs to be fine tuned to the other going into subspace.  each sub is different and so each sub has different tale tell signs.

how does it feel?  we all have different answers for that too and for me it depends on which venue is taken to get me there.  i just happen to think it is awesome to be so disconnected and consciously aware, floating and watching outside myself.  sometimes its dark and scarey and so very deep inside as well.

going in and out of subspace.... mmmm... again, some go through pain, others humiliation, others still through sensuality.  the degrees do greatly varie with the partners that you choose.  coming out of subspace... most will agree (but not all) that aftercare is paramount.  to know what works specifically honestly depends on the partner and that is why communication and trust is so very crucial.

i know its vague but again we are all different.  hope this helps.

Here's a long, current discussion on subspace, among other things.

And, welcome to the forums.

How can you tell a sub is in subspace?

I dunno if anyone has done EKG studies or something, but even then I'm sure it would look like many other altered states.  There's no sure way to know externally.  Even INTERNALLY many subs ask "Was that subspace?"

You can learn eachothers ideas of what you consider "subspace" to be, and ask and learn her physical responses in particular situations and designate some as likely to be "subspace."  But no real way to know.
quote:

What does subspace feel like, is it just a light headed sensation or what?

That's like asking what an orgasm feels like- it's not just one easily explained experience.
quote:

As for bringing a sud in and out, how can that be done?

Again, that's like asking how to make a woman orgasm.

You searched using the word "subspace"?

Ok this is one of those questions that would take a lifetime to answer full and then it will never be complete.

For me I can feel my sub dropping... I can smell the endorphins and taste that slightly metallic tint on there skin...
when the head drops forward in the collar... and there eyes glaze over that is the point my heart jumps and I know that they are gone...not to mention the drop in the breathing.

And then as a Switch.. I have one I submit to.. and the feelings is one that can only be understood by one who has felt that feeling of being here and yet not.. of feeling wrapped in the love and caring arms of Your partner even though that are only wrapped around you in order to torture and tease... and well then there is for me at least the bliss that follows a truly intense drop... to feel like you are moving around wrapped in a cloud of candy floss.... all soft and glowing  (( OK so I have not dropped from last night yet)) ...

Thank you for the links every one, I feel like im bathing in information. It is lovely. Ill keep read if you keep posting. I have a play date coming up in two months and we r going to experiment with this so all the links have been great (though a little distracting from this paper im writing). I wonder if it’s possible to reach subspace though hypnoses.

I'm not naturally submissive and I reach subspace just fine.

I don’t think MissMenagerie was saying you have to be a natural sub to enter subspace, but good point.

Oh and if subspace could be explained by an endorphin release, what could explain top space. Maybe the same cased by an extreme height of emotion?

Subspace is an altered state of consciousness, such as a runner's high, or a meditative state.

Some subs go in from slowly ramped up pain, others from an immediate intense overload of sensation. Others, like me, from sensory deprivation.

You'll know when she's there, her eyes will glaze over, she won't respond verbally or make sense. I've been known to answer a question five minutes later and not make any sense.

Bringing her out? Well, just end the session and let her lie down and rest, she'll come out in about a half an hour unless she falls asleep first. With that said, The Man wants me reacting to him, not off in my own world, so when I stop yelping or flinching, he starts using stingy utensils on me. Because for me, thud puts me further under and sting gets my attention fast. Of course, there are a lot of subs here who float from sting and not thud.

subspace is not only individualistic to each person, i know for myself, there are many different types of so called "subspace" that i enter.  Seems to depend on my mood, mental state, type of play, and whom i am playing with.   Sometimes i feel high and get very giggly and floaty, at other times it is like i am floating above my body,  there are moments of entering a state much like a deep trance... ~shrug~  there are so many different types of sensations and spaces that it would be impossible to try and list them all.

With all that LA posted i am certain that will keep you busy reading for a bit.

How can you tell a sub is in subspace?

Often times, i don't even realize that i have been in subspace until my Master tells me.  He can tell right away.

quote:

What does subspace feel like, is it just a light headed sensation or what?

For me, it's almost like an out-of-body experience.  It's an altered state of consciousness.  It's like i'm not completely aware of what's happening around me.  It's like i lose all concept of time and space.  It's like a mild trip.

quote:

As for bringing a sud in and out, how can that be done?

For me, a couple of good, hard slaps to my face from my Master's big, strong hands will send me into subspace.  Coming out of subspace is just a matter of time.  Again, for me, the length of time varies from several minutes to several hours, and the intesity also varies.

I can't speak for others, but I can speak for myself.....

I consider sub space to be the hypnotic state that total bondage puts me in.   You can litterally watch me drift off as the bondage gets more complete.   It's like floating through space and being in total bliss.

I also get pretty intense excitement from pain and get so enthralled I struggle to speak or respond.   Some people consider this sub space for a masochist, but it's very different than what I experience in a good bondage scene.   I am keenly aware of everything but struggle to conciously respond to even the simplest of questions.
