If Argentina disappoints, the problem is not Argentina. The place is wonderful. I went when I was young and single which is the best time to go anywhere. I just remember gorgeous women and latin rhythms. I've always meant to go back but never did because of the Falklands wars delayed me for so long and by then I had other commitments.

LadyHathor, no problems. It does pay to be cautious wherever one finds oneself.

When I was living in Santiago, Chile, B.A. was typically the vacation hotspot of the businessmen I worked with.

If you're fluent in Spanish, or are comfy with getting a guide (who might run you $100 bucks a day or less) than you can really have a great time.  The night life is also exceptional, if that's your thing.  Don't expect to show up at a dance club (called discoteques, dee sco te keys) before midnight; most of the chairs are just being taken off the tables around then.  They close usually somewhere around 6am.

I've been thinking about my planned trip to Sweden and Ireland this year but the dollar to euro thing is just getting out of hand.
And I'm not alone, I know three other parties who are thinking about cancelling out too!
I'm just not going to pay 50% more for everything.
So, I was looking around the internet and came upon Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"The Paris of South America" according to the tour guides.
And a place I've always wanted to go to anyway.
Of course their weather and seasons are opposite to ours.
July is winter there.
But, the prices for hotels, meals, taxis,  and just about everything else there are a bargain compared to Europe!
Long flight though and expensive!
Nine and a half hours from Miami/Atlanta and about $1,500 as opposed to R/T $680 Boston to Dublin, 6 hours.
Has anyone in here been to Buenos Aires?

Popeye...you ain't 23 anymore.

You spend an enormous amount of typing time letting everyone know how much cash you have, and how good you are at saving.

See above...you ain't 23 anymore.

Quit wasting everyone's time extolling how much you have....and quit wasting your own complaining about how much things cost.....

Go...see the world.

(Of course...until that $14,000.00 is gone hahahahahaha).

Gris, I've mentioned a savings account I started about 6 years ago by not buying cheap plastic junk from China ala Walmart in a few threads.
That was to make a point about "not buying" all that junk and doing business with places like Walmart and not supporting this whole "global economy" thing that is not good for the average American.
And yes, I'm not 23 anymore I realise that.
I've travelled all my life and love it.
When I was 11 years old I took a train r/t from Boston to San Fran all by myself.
I've been to Ireland 3 times already (I have dual U.S./Irish Citizenship) and other parts of Europe 3 times as well.
Including the Navy and Coast Guard I've been to 40-50 different countries and a lot of them were shit holes. Makes one appreciate what we have here.

Meat, I don't think I'll be dissapointed with Buenos Aires.
Lots of culture, history, museums etc there.
Oh, and type in "escorts, buenos aires, argentina" in the yahoo search window!
Maybe I will feel like I'm 23 again!

Hello, Yes I have been to Buenos Aires, the Paris of the South, for exactly the same reasons you have mentioned! I highly recommend it! I went with 2 other guys and we all rented our own private condos, complete with appliances, dishes, utensils, you name it. The cost for 8 nights was $340 in the desirable Recoleta neighborhood! I met a guy on an elevator that asked me how much I paid and he said I paid too much!!! The restaurants are to die for at 67% off. I paid 25 pesos for one lunch(about $8.33) that was equivalent to 25 dollars for them....you can imagine the quality of food! One bit of caution....not a lot of culture. Daytime activities were a little difficult unless you love shopping. I also recommend taking the boat tour over to Colonia Uruguay,a quaint little town that we just sat by the water and had beer and munchies. If you love fashion, bring your best. I left my very expensive eyeglasses home because I didn't want to be the showy American, only to discover that they were all wearing them! I'd love to go back actually. My last 3 trips have been South of our border due to the weakness of the dollar. Contact me if I can be of further assistance.
