No, not that kind.

quote:

You might become a believer in the power of magic dust, when you see how a special powder re-grew the tip of Lee Spievack's finger.

He sliced off a half inch of his finger in the propeller of a hobby shop airplane. His finger never even formed a scar.

"Your finger grew back flesh, blood, vessels and nail?" CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews reports.

"Four weeks," Spievak said.

I looked too - hey, it's what guys do...!  Or perhaps you meant to make them smaller for fellas (like me) who lean more toward small/petite/athletic etc?

Holy crap. If this stuff really works, imagine what it could do for burn victims...

*Grumble* I bet they are testing it out at BAMC, the Army hospital in San Antonio, they do all the major amputee/burn stuff... I wanna seeeee!

I think you can see the vid somewhere in the link above. They do indeed talk about burn victims, and regrowing things like esophaguses (sp?) for cancer victims.

Several different technologies for harnessing regeneration are now in clinical trials around the world. One machine, being tested in Germany, sprays a burn patient's own cells onto a burn, signaling the skin to re-grow.

Badylak is about to implant matrix material - shaped like an esophagus - into patients with throat cancer.

We fully expect that this material will cause the body to re-form normal esophageal tissue," Badylak said.

Some of the most advanced tests involve the heart. This patch of material is being put on - like a band aid - to regenerate heart muscle damaged by a heart attack.

Tell the head of whatever facility you work at to contact some of the folks mentioned in the story, mp. See if they can answer that.

I feel hope every time I see a story like this.

Since i work in a large hospital that's not practical, but i think i WILL email the link to some of them, especially the surgeons. I can't believe this isn't in the news more...and yeah, it gives me hope too, something there is no such thing as too much of..
