I'm not religious, so all that stuff just reminds me how kooky religious people often seem to me. But the overall message is interesting.

Do people really disagree with this?

I also found the minor attack on Elijah Muhammad of the Nation of Islam interesting.

Wow.   Talk about "spin".   *gasp*

In context or not....the speeches are racist.

celticlord2112 -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 2:22:13 PM)

The extended version isn't any better.  Just quieter.

pahunkboy -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 3:30:52 PM)

...the sermon is compelling.   one reaps what they sow.    i dont see anything alarming of it.    ild like to attend one of these.

An extended apology for Bin Laden isn't alarming, it's appalling.

Sanity -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 3:55:57 PM)

Did you happen to catch the part where he was saying that he saw images of black people jumping from the twin towers?

Black people. Like they're the only kind that really matter. Who else thinks like that? I don't. If I see people leaping to their deaths I see people, I don't see colors. My mind doesn't work that way.

celticlord2112 -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 4:39:33 PM)

Indeed.  3000+ Americans died that day.  Screw the white/black distinction.  3000 human beings were shamelessly murdered by a terrorist thug because they happened to be American. That's the only message any preacher needed to make about 9/11.

we (the USA) will loose our caucassion-ism/ess  is Obama is king, premier, czar, leader, or president.

The sermon does not apoligise for Bin Laden.

It points out in-consistances of how the US came to be, and as the US is.

I dont know why anyone views this as any type of a threat.

Has our democracy weakened so much that an oposing view point, or a different line of thought is un-thinkable?

What is there to be afraid of?

The country is pretty much in ruin [right now]

We should be glad that anyone wants to fix it.

Especially someone who does not take PAC money.

It is not the end of the world if a black man is president.  It is hard to fathom that this is even this much of an issue.

The presumption is that the status quo is the only method that can possibly treat its people, its citizens, its people it represents in a civilized manner.

What is wromg with an ethnicity celebrating its heritage?

So if the likes of Obama gain power- the causassions will be ? what? stripped of any status?  any rights?  per haps made to use separate drinking fountains?

To presume he cant or wont represent the greater good is short sighted.

Hate his church. Hate him. What ever.  But it is rather like looking in the mirror and not liking what looks back.

The sadness is that there isnt 3 Obamas- all viying for the top job.

Maybe it is me. I could get kicked out of a casino.  A cat house. I realize I go against the grain.

Dare I mention the religion is not science and as such we can never agree on which is the "right" religion.

[tho] I suppose there are folks who gringe at anything near Obama for the prez.

If this guy is doing your negotiating for you, "you" seem to think- you will be shorted.

The only thing that balances this- well my volumne on this- is maybe,
I am a martian man trapped in an earthlings body.

The board has become --- well- not all of it..........but at the moment- someone open the window cause it stinks.

Caucasian-ism?  What are you babbling about?

In discussing "chickens coming home to roost" the sermon most definitely fits in to a genre called apologetics.

In that, there is no threat.  It's when a race-baiting preacher is the spiritual teacher of a man who would be President that I get concerned....about the man who would be President.  Wright may be the voice speaking the evil, but Obama is the ears to which he speaks.

It's not unthinkable.  Merely wrong.

Again, there is no fear.  It is not fear to reject evil and racist words and thoughts.  It is not fear to stand up and say loudly and clearly that such hatred is wrong.  There is no fear, except in the small minds of those who spew such filth.

If the country is in ruin, what are YOU doing to fix it?  Besides waiting for Obamaman to save the day?

quote:

I haven't the slightest concern about the color of Obama's skin.  I have the gravest of concerns about the content of Obama's character.

quote:

ORIGINAL: pahunkboy

What change is Obama offering?  Since when is more taxes, less security, and race-baiting hatred "change"?

quote:

ORIGINAL: pahunkboy
What is wromg with an ethnicity celebrating its heritage?

Not a blessed thing.  However, ethnicity is not skin color.  "White" is not ethnic, nor is "black".  Ethnic strife between ostensibly Caucasian groups caused "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland and ethnic cleansing in Bosnia-Hercegovina.  Ethnic strife between ostensibly black groups caused the genocide in Rwanda.

No one has even voiced that as a concern, much lessa viable outcome.  Baiting is poor debate strategy.

To insist categorically that he must is naive.

I don't hate him.  I just don't want him to be President.

Who said religion has anything to do with it.  I'd be just as concerned if it were Imam Wright instead of Reverend Wright.

Just checking...

Yup, Americans are just as blinkered as I thought they were...

Pity.

That is a great question.  I wish I could do more.  At the moment- I have been tilling and planting the yard.  I love to garden. Lets see Orange and red canna, purple daisies, a lilac flower. I lost about 100 cannas that I had not stored correctly.

As to me doing to fix the country- I havent figured that out yet. Certainly Ild like to, and  that day may be close.

I did manage to get on some state clean air committee.  Looking at the agenda tho- it is pretty much a horse and pony show.  Ild like to stop back yard burn barrels here.  thru-out the state.

Ild also like the dollar backed by gold.

Good question.  Unforunatly  the short answere is not enough...(yet).

MadameTakhisis -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 5:41:49 PM)

Yea, nothing offensive! A lot of truth! I find thats what scares the hell out of most Americans THE TRUTH!

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 5:49:24 PM)

Simply commenting on context not content ,there is certainly a difference between versions .Though given the general tone of the man how do I know what the service in its entirety contained .The media had their agenda ,spicing up a sensational story by choosing the most inflaming section and running with it,now comes the attempt to rehabilitate the man.At this point, post Obama's race speech, who cares other than the Reverend and his acolyte's he isn't the story anymore Obama's response is,and whether or not you believed him.By the way this wouldn't be the first time the media used a sound byte to dramatize a story, the idea that this was some hatchet job on Reverend Wright is bullshit .The media is not required to show a mans whole speech/rant covering any story

Ok, so you're sitting here whining about the sad state of this nation, but you care more about your flowers.....

That's the first scary thing I've read in all of this political discourse about Obama's soon to be failed bid to be President.

EPGAH -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 6:00:02 PM)

I can think of one scarier, namely: NOONE BETTER TO REPLACE HIM!
Unless somehow, we can get EVERYONE on this site to vote Nader...

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 7:22:25 PM)

Yeah cause after 2000 You can really see the democrats working with Nader!!!! good luck

EPGAH -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 7:26:18 PM)

Actually, I was thinking of having Popeye lead the charge; he's more popular than myself...

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama's Pastor in Context (3/21/2008 8:32:02 PM)

Pretty standard high-energy Christianity in the delivery, some interesting choices in intonation.  The gestures were a bit over the top, but I didn't see any bigscreens hanging, and you have to sell it to the back row just as much as the front.  I'll even give a few extra difficulty points for doing it in the round.  Helluva nice robe, too.  That kind of church takes a fair chunk of money.  I bet somebody jams on those very spendy looking tribal drums behind him, during the altar call

The question becomes, what is that crowd there to buy?  Listen to the audience.  When do they start sounding like a 'spirited' congregation?  About the time he gets rolling with the "We BOmbED..., America the Baa-aAad!"  That is what the audience is there to hear.  That is what gets them to dig a little deeper every Sunday.

And that's where Barry and his family have been communing with God for 20 years.
