… I discovered sex, love, passion and the lifestyle first hand in my teens. I met an older bisexual swinger and she introduced me to a variety of light BDSM as well as good old fashioned kink. In the 70s BDSM societies were not as judgmental as they are today and they were a small sub faction of the gay Leatherman and swinger crowds. It was more of a “I’m ok, you’re ok” mood in those days. No one preached or thought they knew the "right way" to live the lifestyle. Growing up around the Leatherman exposes you to some of the more extreme S&M. It also clearly draws the lines between dominance and submission. Later in my teens I became involved in M/s, sadism, edge play and started the first of 3 long term lifestyle relationships that span a 30 history of love, passion, adventure and emotional bliss. … It is those old fashioned and clear cut concepts of dominance and submission I think I would have missed if I discovered BDSM in this politically correct day and age through the internet and the BDSM societies that currently post on it. I never would have been exposed to such a wide variety experiences and developed my own style and impressions as quickly. I think I would have been influenced by peer pressure and all the PC societies trying to sell SSC as their credo.
