The past few months have seen Sarkozy's popularity rating plunge from above 60% to under 40%. Although unemployment has fallen to its lowest level for more than two decades, a sense of gloom remains and the high cost of living has become the main concern for many French people. I think the Brits could have told the French that they'll pay more for the privilege of being governed by the right. Mind you, the French have been partying on the backs of their children and grand children but as the Germans have proved, you don't need right wing ideology you just have to stop the party.

Il est puant - but you'll agree that in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve, blah blah blah. They voted him in (I hasten to add I voted for Royal), but now that they're paying the price of his insanely extreme right-wing policies, they're crying like babies. It's always like that in France [8\|] . Sarkozy n'est qu'un gros con puant.

Isn't Sarkozy trying to reform ie reduce state welfare expenditure and feather bedding, things like that? As soon as people see where reform is heading ie straight at them, they soon see sense.

Heh heh, Sarkozy's rightwing revolution doesn't go that far. If you read between the lines of his electioneering, he expected the rest of Europe to subsidize the French not the French themselves. The wine lake and butter mountain are now of the past, though they still inhabit much Euro myth. The French realize they can't keep living off their children and grandchildren's inheritance, the problem politicians have is how to reform France. Sarkozy seemed to be saying he would do a Margerat Thatcher. That way he would end up being guillotined. I hope whoever reforms France doesn't destroy its essence, unlike Britain, it still has a soul and it would be a shame to lose it just so the greedy rich can be even richer. This is the irony, it seems to me the average French person has a better quality of life than the average Brit and it isn't as if Britain has done away with poverty by going more capitalist, it has just degraded everybody's quality of life.

As far as the vote goes, its another typical article from the Guardianista. They overlooked, but did mention, the fact that unemployment in France is at its lowest for twenty years. We all know local elections in the UK almost always go against the party in power. Why should France be different ? Meatclever.... The wine lake is a myth?.... well it wasnt last year when it was costing £895 million in subsidies..... All the Europhiles love to shove these inconveniant facts under the carpet. Ahhhhh Sarkozy......... What a guy...... midget with the ego of a giant, married to an ancient top model who is used to get the men of the others then kick them in the curb when she's over with them!!! trying to put his children in every little hole he can find in politics. Last time I was in Paris, I was surpirised at the open hostility towards him when one got into a political conversation and from people who should be his natural supporters. I understand the reluctance of the French to dig up their vines because should the fashion turn from lighter new world red wines back to heavier red wines, they would have burnt their bridges. But they are making too much middle of the road wine. Personally I love the heavier French reds, I still think they're the best but sadly I'm out of step with the world.

I'm pretty sad when I go back to Britain, there really does seem something missing from its heart. Maybe its just nostalgia on my part.

If I understand the first quote correctly she is being described like the perfectly presented porn star I complained about elsewhere. I like a face/body with character and a bit worn, not just well formed smooth tho' beautiful plastic.
