Lucky that people are born in a place where they have a right to education and self improvement.

Yes, we're very fortunate.

quote:

Now they all fear the immigrants because they didn’t take the time to educate and self improve themselves when they had the chance.

"All" is not correct.

quote:

Didums because now they have to compete with immigrants for jobs.

What's a "didum"? [:D]

quote:

It strikes me that Iranians are usually quite well educated so I doubt he’ll end up on the welfare system somehow.

Probably right. One of the hardest working human beings I've ever known was from Iran.

quote:

The west is capitalist society where you have to compete to stay ahead so why is it people think only they have the right to live in comfort here? Talk about hypocrisy.

We aren't a purely capitalist society, though. So, I have to disagree.

quote:

As for him being gay; yeah it probably is a ploy but didn’t you ever take advantage of the system to survive once?

I did, and don't begrudge him doing the same; I think he should probably be granted asylum.

quote:

I mean no one here claimed married living allowance or child support benefit right? We all stand on our own feet here right and wouldn’t dream of claiming housing benefit etc.?[:D]

Ah, the benefits of being a citizen.

quote:

But but we are entitled to such things because our ancestors fucked over the rest of the world once upon a time in the distant past.

No one is innocent in the "fucked 'em over" sweepstakes; but some won, some lost. I won't lose sleep over being on the winning side, selfish prick that I am. [:D]

that part of the globe- treats gays badly.

hopefully the take-over of the right, in America wont get that bad.

the specifics on this are not known.

Thats funny, Irans "president" said that "we dont have gays in our country".  Messed up.

Yes this is true. The popularity of gender reassignment in Teheran has got nothing to do with tolerance.

Gays in Iran are forced to go through the gender reassignment process to become a member of the opposite sex so that they can live "normal lives".

There is opposition to this attitude in Iran.  In fact, there's an election today and the progressive parties need western support.  Instead of demonising an entire country as "barbaric" you might consider that.  Lumping them all together actually weakens the possibility of things improving there.

Exactly. I've recently agreed to volunteer as an activist for precisely this cause. The current regime makes Saddam Hussein look very much like Santa Claus.

That is why I think ol Georgie boy mis-spoke when he was sending the troops over.. and instead of saying Iran ( ya know where they actualy are starting to have nucelar power, and bomb making material...) he said Iraq.
