scifisub42 -> profiles that are deleted? (3/10/2008 6:12:02 PM)

Hello, I wasn't sure where to post this question...
I've recently been chatting with someone  on YIM, after contacting them on collarme...  I just noticed that his profile  "no longer exists"  I know that a person can delete their profile and that the site moderators can delete  a profile.... But is there a way to tell the difference ?  And what things do people do to get their profile deleted by the moderators?  Why would people delete their profiles?

To my knowledge, there isn't a way to tell the difference between a profile that was deleted by the user and one that was deleted by the mods. Others may know better than me.

They probably violated one or more of the Terms of Service: http://www.collarchat.com/tos.asp (for Collarchat.com) or http://www.collarme.com/personals/tos.htm (for CollarMe.com)

Why would people delete their profiles?

There are lots of reasons why someone would choose to delete their own profile...

1 - They are no longer interested in remaining on CM.com. Maybe they got "burned" by someone, got mad, etc.
2 - They are playing games and aren't really who and what they claim to be -- and when someone catches on, they delete their profile and create a new one until it happens again...and again...and again...
3 - Their spouse -- or mother -- found out that they're on this site and they were forced to remove their profile.
4 - They're taking a hiatus from the Internet dating scene and don't want to be bothered with e-mails.
5 - They've found the person of their dreams (maybe it's you!) and don't want to remain on the Internet as an available person.
6 - They don't want to talk to you anymore and are too chickenshit to say so, and it's easier to delete (and recreate) a profile than it is to say, "Hey, I'm just not that into you."

I'm sure there are others that I've failed to mention here. Bottom line, if he's "really into you," then it won't matter that his profile here has been deleted. If he has your YIM, then he can contact you that way. I'm a bit cynical, so I'll predict that he probably won't -- but that's just been my experience. (Nothing personal against you!) I personally wouldn't waste any more time, effort, or electrons on trying to figure out why he has taken down his profile. If he contacts you again, you can and should ask him for his reasons in removing his profile; if he doesn't contact you, or if his reasoning seems fishy, move on to the next one! There are too many players online (on any site, not just this one) to worry about why they do certain things. And there are great people online who are exactly who and what they say they are and don't play silly little games; those are the ones that are worth spending time and effort on.

Best of luck!

You can also *hide* your profile. In that case I think it will show up as 'no longer an active profile'. But, I'm not really sure.

deleted profiles = the result of the spouse or partner finding out they have an online profile looking for sex or some other relationship...mostly sex.

and if they dont delete it ..it will cause divorce.

I am the Delete Button Wizard...................I'm the one that is responsible for the loss of all your friends. They most likely had fell behind in there tribute to me.

That reminds me, there is a good number of you that are falling behind.

(snerks)  Yes, thank you,     Yah,  I'm not going to waste a lot of effort tracking someone like this down.   I've gotten emails before, where the profile was gone before I ever saw it...  so I've seen it happen before..

I just started to wonder more about WHY it happens... especially when someone seemed  'ok' enough to hold a couple long chats with.

heh. now if ONLY  I could even get a few of them to show up to a munch!!

fast reply

If you ever got an email from the person and can still send a reply, then the profile is just hidden. If the profile is really gone, you won't be able to email and the system will tell you something like "This user was hit by a bus".

Moderators cannot delete profiles, only CM Admins can.

Aside from asking?  No.

Profiles are deleted for violating the site's rules.

You'll have to ask them.  Users can also temporarily deactivate their profiles but that's not the same as deleting them.

Well, believe it or not, he contacted me on YIM again.... when I asked about the profile deletion.., he said  "I was chatting wiht you and did not need a profile"
I can't believe that someone would start chatting with someone and do that,    his response to my disbelief was  (paraphrased) -Ok,  have a good evening -....
So,  perhaps his SO found out...
Or he's actually some sort of stalker.....

(shrug) Oh well.... Millenicon is this weekend,   the crappy things in life can go away for a few days..

How do I delete my profile on the message boards?  I have already deleted it on CM.

(I changed my name and wanted to close this ID).

Not sure, but you can probably go to your profile on this side, at the top right of the home page here and click profile and there should be something in there to close it.
