What do you think is the most awesome kickazz plants?

What foilage do you think makes  a house a home?

I like strawberry plants.  They just remind me of the better parts of childhood.

I general, I'm fond of plant life.  I always feel that the ever-sickly atmosphere is continually getting worse, but platns help fight back against it.  I truly wish there were less people and more plants; the world would be a better place.

and I'd also like to plant some poppies; http://www.americanmeadows.com/Perennials/Poppies/PapaverorientaleMarcusPerry.aspx

Today I planted a lavender bush.
Recently I've planted some Blue Solaise leek seeds,
some rainbow chard, carrots and some red onion sets.
I love my vegetables to be colourful as well as edible.
In my kirtchen are some pots of corriander (cilantro?)
and red basil that I'm growing from seed.
And on my window sill the crocuses and tulips
that I planted last year are now flowering.

Anything that grows is exciting...and you can quote me on that.

Despite the fact there is now 8' of snow at the end of our driveway -- I'm excited too fellow gardeners! Plans this year -

- continue to rip out the invasive or ill suited plants the previous owner planted. Mint (arrgh!), aenimic strawberries, a weedy raspberry bush, rusty-spotted hollyhocks, dormant lily of the valleys, a nasty mock orange and a hodge podge of roadside species she bunged in the ground willy nilly

- planting grass this year. No, not the kind you puff-puff-pass. Grasses like micanthus, Japanese blood grass, sedge, blue fescue and zebra grass.  For texture and a zen-like feel, I'm in love with grasses.

- I'm enamoured with the play of colour b/w foliage that's bright chartruese green, and shades of purple. Hostas with heucheras / ajuga with coleus / epimedium with lady's mantel etc.

-  shrubs and flows in white only - viburnum, bridal wreath spireas, peonies, ballon flower, hostas

-  colour in huge planters out front and back where I can most brightly coloured flowers in and out of the sun. And the 200 bulbs I planted last year for a burst of spring colour before the trees fill in and cut back on the light

- try and keep Mr. Bunny from eating my herbs !

And I want to try one those "upside down" growing containers for some tomatoes. Has anyone tried these ?  http://topsyturvys.com/10001.html
Home grown tomatoes are the best !

I'm so looking forward to planting a garden this year! PA apparantly has excellent soil for tomatoes, and I'll be reviving my mothers garden now that I'm living back at home. Have a look and get lost on this site...http://www.heirloomseeds.com/

If I had a place to garden, I'd like to plant tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and different spices.  I know I can plant spices in my window in pots, but I am too lazy to do it.

-fast reply-

Natalie and I were going to plant new fruit trees, raspberry bushes and a small vinyard this year but I think I'll wait another year for that as I'm trying to allocate a bit more property next to the house and that would alter my landscaping plans.

So it is going to be the normal vegetable garden and Natalie plants flowers everywhere, she has new landscape blocks and bark ready to put in around the house. I'm sure she has various plants and flowers planned for that.

We have a very large garden and it has plenty of herbs, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, peas, carrots, tators, beans, grape, cherry and full size toatoes, peppers, eggplant, okra, onions, cucumbers, squash, punkins, broccoli, asparagus and  lotsa sweet corn.

Mmmmm, mmmmm good,

Bull

The pics look good.  I like this place in that it is set up for gardening better then the last place.   vegatables would not work here.  i read 50 feet from say a highway not to eat the weeds.  [it was a survival guide]  so vegas wont work.  i like alot of color. the cannas were as tall as 1 story last year- i plan to add to the 2 rock gardens...    the post about invasive species- is noteworthy.   watering the plants is relaxing to me.  im not sure why.

i wanted to re-do my grass- but i get kids riding bikes thru my yard and walking...  the garden area shouldnt be effected.   i had planted rose bushes which the lady donw the street- thought was terrible- cos the thorns keep people at bay.  LOL.

I eat tomatos every day.

one of my buddies cut down every tree in his yard- so a tree will never fall on the house.  then someone pointed out the pine trees attract ants.

i thought about soemthing to line a 3 feet chainlink fence.... maybe a flowery vine

It's just for the beauty, not the medicinal effects.

I planted all of my bulbs..flowers last fall.  So, already ahead of schedule on the planting.
Bought an additional 6 sub zero roses this year.  So when they arrive.  The arbor day society also had a great deal on dwarf hazelnut bushes.  So, bought a bucket of them as well.  Three more canadian blue spruce trees for a windbreak.

Started my vegetables about 3 weeks ago...they are still seedlings but with as many veggie plants as I'm going to have and already have I could go into business.
Actually going to plant some of the vines in the ground in the greenhouse.  It should be interesting.  It's finally starting to warm up to the point it is  a hundred or so each day in the greenhouse so last years plants should really start thriving as well.

Overseeding the front yard with a tall fescue variant from Rebel. Tilled up the side yard and planting zoysia grass there. My girl is planting panzies around the mailbox, and wavy petunias from the floorboxes that hang from the deck. The flower garden will have zennias, tulips and a few other flowers. The veggie garden will have tomatos (vine and grape), cucumbers, peppers, and bean bushes.
