LOL it's so the yout of today knows what the heck we're talking about when we say such foreign words as "records" and "45's".

I'm listening to the "45" of ShaBoom now...hahahaha, I actually had this!!  My sister & I would sing it on my little record player and sing it at the top of our lungs....I just sent her the YouTube of it.  [:D]

I was mixing down tracks on one of those portable digital studios, and found a bank of special effects labelled 80s, 60s, 50s, and 30s.  The lower the number, the more hiss and pop it added to the final mix, to simulate vinyl over the years.

OMG, that is just awesome...thanks for the links

And yea, I not only remember the songs, but had most of the 45's. It even looks like my sisters old player.

Hey, I still use cassettes, though I have been brave lately and updated to minidisc.

I just love devices that don't need a computer to make them work at their optimum.

Good thing the RIAA has sued... glunk

badprofessor -> RE: I never thought the Internet would lead to this (3/9/2008 11:58:26 AM)

I have at least 2000 45's that I care about--mostly reggae, soul and funk, plus a few punk rock ones from my misspent youth. I've got about another 2000 to flip. In Toronto, we still get weekly shipments of 45's from Jamaica, 'cuz they're still used there to some extent. I've also got at least 2500-3000 albums. Obviously, I  have a bit of a vinyl fixation.

I have a lot of old LPs and 45s, but no functioning turntable at the moment.  I read an article about transferring your records over to digital files.  It doesn't take that much equipment, just the time to play all the records as your computer records it.  I also have a bag full of cassette tapes, with very few cassette tape cases LOL.  I imagine a lot of them would get eaten in a player.  I haven't got them out in a long time and looked through them.  I have never bought CDs.  In fact I haven't bought music in 10 years.  I just listen to internet radio mostly.  I have been thinking about getting satellite radio.  I'd like something I could listen to at work.  I saw that you could buy a walkman type satellite receiver now.

The fact that you have to do the recording in real time is the reason I still have milk crates full of LPs and bankers boxes full of cassettes waiting to be transferred.
