I will be the first dissenter.  The "Mid-Atlantic" accent put on by actors and actresses like Hepburn is pretentious and phony.   When I hear it; I think of argyle-clad, blonde girls named "Muffy" meeting boys named "Tad" for a romp in the pool at the country club.

Me too, kinkbound.  She was so charming in her movies (I loved Funny Face), and her work with Unicef was commendable. 

Hers wasn't a pretentious, mid-Atlantic accent (like Jackie O, for example).  She grew up in Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK and Amsterdam, and didn't reach the States until she was 24.
