okay...so some of the programs i watch on tv continue to air on this radio.

if i purchase this: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10081299&catid=

is it a stand alone or do i need to connect it to my computer...it says plug n play.
i dont want it to have anything to do with my computer.

also...where do i order what stations i want on it? can it be done without a credit card??? how long are the contracts or is it monthly non contracted?

are there any free stations when you buy the product??? i want it for sports mainly.

anyone that has this already your info is appreciated.

you can listen to sirius online without any type of externals..
The item you linked to plugs into your car.. not your computer...

go to the sirius website and see what payment options they have as an alternative to  credit cards..

There are all sorts of ways to hear sat radio, and yes, they make radios like you're talking about.

http://shop.sirius.com

If you have stores like Best Buy or Circuit City where you live, go there, they can demo different items, and  help you figure out what you want.

Again, check out some local stores, I believe you can pay them directly, but I could be wrong.

Ok lets answer these one at a time...

It connects to a "dock" in your automobile, and not your computer. The system your looking at comes with a reciever, antenna, dock with mounts, and dc power adapter. This is an auto reciever only, not home.

You don't "order" stations with sirius or xm, you get all they have to offer, there is no picking and choosing programming.

No, there aren't any free stations, to listen to local stations, you have to switch back to your car stereo.

I had sirius for over three years when driving a truck, and it was well worth the subscription price, IMO.

If you want a home kit take a look at http://www.amazon.com/Sirius-SUP-H1-Universal-Plug-Play/dp/B000I2HAVW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204935746&sr=8-4

with http://www.amazon.com/Sirius-SUP-H1-Universal-Plug-Play/dp/B000I2HAVW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204936030&sr=8-4

It's about the same price as your selection & you would have both home & car docks.

i dont have stereo speakers...i always used my computer for music.

i have sennheiser headphones that i could use with it....

still have to figure out how to get around the credit card issue...

I have XM.  You buy and install the satellite equipment in your car.  It either wires in to the stereo or you tune the stereo to a channel.

If it is like XM, you pay Sirius the activation and monthly fee to get it to work.

Special X, where you can hear William Shatner, the Texas Chain Saw Orchestra, Frank Zappa, Leonard Nimoy, and all sorts of other bizarre melodys.  Yay.

well according to the person on the phone i just talked to...all i would need is this:

http://shop.siriuscanada.ca/edealinv/servlet/ExecMacro?nurl=control/StoreItem.vm&ctl_nbr=3560&siId=2675548&catParentID=19238&scId=19238&oldParentID=16691

which is about $15 more than buying separate parts.

she also said i'd have to go to some cash store and they have prepaid credit cards that i could use online...  now this one is news to me... a person with no credit no job..etc can get a prepaid credit card???? must be some sort of contract still you have to sign no with the cash store??? i dunno im stupid when it comes to those kinds of things.

but if this is true...i got a cash store across the street....and hello ONLINE SHOPPING....

Don't you have a debit card attached to your checking account? Because you can use that as a credit card. The difference is that it doesn't give you credit beyond what your checking account presently holds. That's how the prepaid credit cards work, they're debit cards you load, the way you do a phone card.

no..thats a usa feature..canada has no debit cards...we have conveinence cards.  you can use an atm with them...but is nothing more than that.  your credit card in canada has the debit option or the cash credit.

Have you found any channels which play consistently interesting music without killing via short play lists? I'm doused with XM at work. The best thing I can say about it after several months is that it motivated me to program some channels of my own at slacker.com.

FR -

I got Sirius for Howard Stern and absolutely love it for everything else it has on top of Stern (who I love!).  If you don't have a credit card you can also just sign up for an annual membership which means you could pay once a year by check.  It ends up being cheaper than the monthly subscription but you do have to put out more money up front.  If you don't have a lot of money (I noticed you mentioned that you don't have a job) I'd just sign up to listen to Sirius online through your computer rather than buying a physical radio or transmitter.  Sirius website is pretty good and when in doubt they also have a 1-800 help line as well.

C~

Well, the channels I generally listen to are punk or alternative rock; Lucy, Fred, Ethel, Fungus, etc.

There is one channel that is all 60s surf music, all the time.  I am in heaven.  But to be honest, I am not in a position to listen to it for more than an hour or 3 at a time, so I have yet to be bored with it.

And it beats 22 minutes of music for every 38 minutes of commercials per hour.

The Grateful Dead Channel is all I listen to except the odd football/basketball game. If the SIRIUS/XM merger goes through will there be MLB on SIRIUS?

A note about it.

The music is a 4 hour loop. With 1 or 2 loops per 3 days.  Then there has been more mindless talking on it.

see what the TV offers- that seems to be a better deal.

i had sirious for years. recorded like 8 hours of it- cancelled and got showtime. regular radio has gotten slightly better since this came out. and of course there is still the 'off" button.

the only option available to a person in canada is credit card.  any other options are for people who live in the usa.  already called the 800# to find this out.  hence the ill never get sirius because i have no CC.  no way around it.
