Morsigil -> Music to scene to. (2/29/2008 3:38:16 PM)

I'm throwing a play party in the very near future and I need to know the names of some songs or artists that have a sufficiently dark feel to them. I already know of Chiasm, but I need a good hour or two worth of music.

Anyone who can share some of the music that gets them in the mood is welcome to do so. You'll have my thanks! Further, if you can link me to a sample online (myspace, any number of sites) I'll be doubly grateful.

I was thinking something like Biscuit by Portishead, or that one famous Chiasm song... Isolate I think? I have it here somewhere. Bush - Mouth, etc.

What do you consider 'dark' music?  Haunting instrumental gothic pieces?  Hardcore metal?

My personal tastes are eclectic when music is involved.  I would enjoy listening to Rachmaninoff as much as Staind.  Lyrics are a factor for me, as well.

"If I get any closer
and if you open up WIDE
and if you let me inside
on and on, I've got nothing to hide"

as an example [Foo Fighters, 'All My Life'].

This guy is amazing! He was vending at South Plains, and I am in love with his rhythm driven music, that was written especially for scening and sex.

I guess I should be more specific. I'm thinking ambient goth. Goth music that isn't overly self-indulgent, subdued, focused on creating a calm, yet sordid atmosphere.

Well, as far as I know, he is very very involved in the gay leather lifestyle, but his music is amazing. Don't let his nic put you off...

Imperative Reaction has a couple of good pieces, but for the most part they tend to be more industrial.

For ambient Goth-type music I'm always a fan of Claire Voyant... Velvet Acid Christ has a track called Slut that gets me wet just listening to it.  It's very much unlike his other stuff which tends to be a lot harsher.

Also check out Collide, Aesma Daeva, Angels and Agony... all pretty good stuff with a softer, sexier edge.  Of course dependent on what tracks you pick, but that's any artist :P

Thank you! I can't access these songs at the moment, but I am sure it's what I'm looking for. As you said, the softer, sexier edge is exactly what I want.

At the moment I like “yes I’m a witch” by yoko ono

BlackPhx -> RE: Music to scene to. (2/29/2008 5:26:53 PM)

I tend towards the classical for scening..things like O'fortuna have a lovely build and crescendo for timing a flogging. Almost anything by Bond can be great background music as well..of course there are the classics, the Buddy Rich Gene Kuppa Drum Battle and Wipeout for Masochist and Cane.

Beethovens 5th in D minor is a good song to beat someone to

LadyRainfire -> RE: Music to scene to. (2/29/2008 5:41:53 PM)

Fata Morgana is one of my favourite groups... But I think it also depends on personal taste. I've scened to some classic rock too like Bad Company, Eric Clapton, Rush, and still other times to Prince. Just depends....

KindLadyGrey -> RE: Music to scene to. (2/29/2008 6:47:18 PM)

I lean towards high energy music, so I'd go old school and break out the Crystal Method. YMMV.

I will add that it would be a refreshing change of pace, and I think somewhat classy, to attend a play party with ambient classical music instead of the usual goth stuff.
