At a demo i was at recently, the Demonstrator referred to the place beyond subspace as "Abandon". It was kind of a nice way to describe that fully gone feeling where you are no longer able to express even "Ow" or "Damn that hurt".

Oh gosh I can see it now- people already feel they aren't cool enough if they don't go into subspace everytime they kneel.  Now it's "have you ever experienced abandon?"

ownedgirlie -> RE: Flying and Subspace: Different or the Same Thing? (2/29/2008 11:25:24 PM)

It's not abandon unless it's reckless abandon!

It's all the same to me.  One of the last times I was in "that place" (insert whatevahyawannacallit here) I broke out into singing "Fly Me To the Moon" at the top of my lungs, so you tell me - subspace, flying, or...just plain crazy?  [8D]

It never ceases to amaze me when people think that they know what an experience is when they have never actually experienced it... truly freaking amazing.  I would never in a million years think I know what it is to be in top space, because I just don't. I can imagine what it feels like, draw analogies to it, but I haven't ever been there.

I would take what this guy says with a grain of salt.

For me every subspace experience has been different. I fly in subspace at times, other times I do not. It really all depends. It is all subspace as far as I am concerned. I do not care what any other dominant says about what it is.

Seriously, I think they're arguing semantics with no basis on which to form an opinion other than observation which, really, doesn't give you a whole lot of information compared to actually zooming around. ::grins::

To me, it's flying in subspace and I delight when I'm allowed to go there. I can only get there through intense pain. Hair pulls (yum!)are going to get me wet and horny but they won't put me into subspace. Also, it's very different from the one out of body experience I had but that's another thread. [8D]

1 Normal every day space
3 Fuzzy space ... extra awareness of your Dominant, enhanced focus, feeling of "warm and fuzzy", excited, anticipatory. Lots of things get subs to here ... getting naked, seeing or feeling certain toys, a few smacks, a strong voice, certain whispered words, rituals ... there's that thrill of being under control
5 Mega alert space ... in the zone, totally aware of your Dominant, total focus, painful stimuli hurt a lot, but your brain wants more ... largely induced by adrenalin, this is a bit of a fight or flight space for some. I have seen some subs go through anger at this stage and snarl and swear, others thrash and fight their bonds etc, whereas i (and another girl i know) go through giggle space ... the internal conflict between "this is ridiculous, why is this (pain, embarrassment or whatever) happening?" and "why do i crave it so much and want more?" is what really sets this stage apart for me and that's why i go off into peals of laughter at myself
7 Hurts so goooood space ... endorphins kick in, pleasure kicks in, you feel you can take anything, bodies rise up to meet the blows, cognitive thought is pretty hard to do, can hardly count or string 2 words together (so Dominants, this isn't the time to rely on safewords!), mmmmm this little visit to la la land (or goo goo land) is lovely, do i have to come back now? Sometimes i have experienced cathartic tears at this stage, just bawled my eyes out but felt so much better for it afterwards, and I have seen others do that too, sometimes between stages 5 and 7. i need grounding from here, whereas from stage 5 i can generally get back on my own
9 Deep Space 9 (OK so I'm a trekkie LOL!) ... flying, floating, soaring, out of it, spaced out, out of body, totally la la, in heaven ... unable to move, this is the only state in which i can kneel for any length of time and actually voluntarily move into that position, or i just sink to the floor ... i need a lot of patient grounding from here including specific instructions and assistance to move into a different position ... don't expect me to use my brain much for a while LOL, or my body ... don't take me here if You want dinner in a hurry and You don't want to be the one cooking it!

Would be interested in knowing how many folks recognise similar stages themselves!
Maam Jay aka violet[A]

Great list! I can identify with all of them. I adore deep space 9 and wish it happened more often for me, but when it does...WOW!!

I agree, it really does come off as a semantics thing. As was mentioned earlier by I believe the.dark., tomatoe-tomahtoe.

I agree. When he said that, I replied back based on my personal experiences as well as what I've picked up from discussion with other subs who have experienced it. I haven't hit top space, even though I've topped a few times, so I can't tell someone what it's like, nor would I unless I did experience it.

I stand by what I replied to him. It's varying versions of the same basic thing whatever you choose to call it by.

adds to ownedgirlie's hijack: Agree, it's a great pic of you guys.

re. the guts hanging out and feeling no pain - that is shock.
and if your sub is to that point you need an ambulance   -
but, if she is in sub space, then yeh for you.
and flying sounds like a varient of subspace,       or maybe a quantitative variation.
Sounds like describing different aspects of love - they sound different, but are really "just" variations.

SassySarijane -> RE: Flying and Subspace: Different or the Same Thing? (3/1/2008 8:59:52 PM)

You can get to the point of feeling no pain in sub space without needing an ambulance or medical care, well, as long as your guts aren't hanging out, but that's a whole nother story that takes edge play to new levels.

Hi MaamJay,

I know of a few people who would recognize such stages.  Since I do not reach my floaty, spacy, loopy, la-la land through pain, that part of it didn't pertain to me.

But I did like your Deep Space 9 comment, and I do love being at that point, even if I get there by other means. [:)]

Hi OG ... I didn't mean to imply that pain is the only way of getting into subspace or reaching Deep Space 9 ... it is a COMMON way for many but by no means, is it the ONLY way.

Nice to see others finding this useful though [:)]

Personally I don't think of that as a place beyond subspace, but just a very deep level of it. And I just call it going nonverbal which describes that specific behavior.

Like Maam Jay, I feel there are different levels of how far gone I am. But they are all related to each other, not entirely different things.

RoundersTea -> RE: Flying and Subspace: Different or the Same Thing? (3/3/2008 12:39:34 PM)

Subspace, flying, floating...for me it is all the same.  Endorphins and accepting the sensation, truely giving up control and let Master take me where he will. I know there is difference in degrees for me, but the majority of that is usually about where I am.  If I am mentally able to accept and float on the sensations or am I being my own worst enemy and hanging onto the frustrations from work, life, and family and not let it all float away.  Of course there are time I need to go deeper, to give up pain and frustration. I am a big believer in preparing to scene, clearing your mind for both the Dominant and the submissive, building the energy flow.  There are times I am warm and toasty and times people think I must be drugged, as well as times I have passed out.  They are all wonderful.  It is the degree of openesss, acceptance, trust, need and the exchange of power/control.
