LadyEllen -> top 3 things you'd change? (2/26/2008 11:51:03 AM)

what are the three things you'd change if you had the opportunity and power?

could be local, regional, state-wide, national, global....... could be in the social sphere, the political or economic, the crime and justice system, transport, agriculture, employment etc

the only rule is - no generalised wishes "peace on Earth" for instance, or "good will to all men" and so on; you have the opportunity and power to change whatever it is that bugs you, your community, your nation, your world, so lets hear it specifically and what you'd change specifically!

Mine would be (in no particular order - and from a UK perspective)
1) undoing the global capitalism that denies the UK (and the west in general) the heritage of wealth across all socio-economic groups which its people struggled hard to achieve
2) changing our divisive model of multi-culturalism to one which is inclusive of all under a common central culture
3) no longer trying to play world power on the coat tails of the US, and diverting our excess foreign and defence resources into fulfilling the social needs of our people

4. ild reduce the noise- clutter- ild kill "press 1" "i think you said pay bill" -so  a real person must ans

5. ild ban if and and buts in modern transactions-  the test on it- can granny navigate it?

6. ild declare sancity of human life.  a man can have % machine and sill be human but a machine cant be human when adding organs.-etc.   ild affirm humans have rights above legal entities andmachines and computers.

1. A constitution for the UK that centres around what a government cannot and must not do rather than what it can or must do. (libertarian of me for once)
2. A firm policy of intelligent law-making and enforcement
3. Free cinnamon buns every day

I am not sure these are in any particular order

1. Abolish all borders and allow free flow of populations;

2. Impose massive taxes on weapons manufacturers and slowly drive them out of business;

3. Revoke the powers of corporations, take away their status as 'legal persons' and ensure they respect international labour regulations and generally behave themselves until we have an unlobbied system of government... everywhere.

LadyEllen, three choices isn't enough. You're an evil genie :-) .

For the USA:

1. National Health Insurance program.

2. Construction of high-speed bullet-trains connecting major cities.

3. A law stipulating that Presidents who commit crimes while in office cannot enact legislation pardoning themselves for said crimes, i.e., they will be held responsible for their actions.

This already exists.  Since he has not been found guilty of a crime, he cannot be pardoned.

When the Dipshit in Chief is found guilty of crimes next year, not enough Republicans will be working to pardon him.

I imagine Shotgun will use the "just following orders" defense at his trial, and has told AnencephalyBoy that if he resigns, Shotgun will not pardon him like Ford pardoned Nixon after Nixon was impeached.

In Ford's case, he had no knowledge or involvement in Tricky Dick's crimes.
