Ben Griffin, ex-SAS, claims soldiers from the Hereford unit form part of a joint UK/US task force which takes enemy captives - some non-combatants - and sends them for transport to CIA "interrogation centres" across the world. Given that even hosting the flights is being disputed and that the Government have requested the closure of Guantanamo Bay on legal and ethical grounds, where does this leave David Milliband?

Milliband has now admited to at least two flights having landed in the UK. As per usual Labour will deny everything and nothing will happen. Personally i have no qualms about treating KNOWN terrorists this way, its not as though they play on a level playing field is it. Once in the UK or the US they should recieve a proper trial. What does concern me is how they treat non combatants and other suspects. My guess would be many were held at Gutanamo just because someone had named them under interogation.

Labour were quite happy not to know what was taking place which is why they never looked under any stones. Their stance has been totally hypocritical because if they were really concerned about American policy, they would have found out all the information 5 years ago. For fuck's sake, they're fighting on the same side in the same damn war!

Regardless of how one feels about extraordinary rendition, the administration's handling of this thing has been a massive exercise in stupidity. One obvious and blatant lie after another. Open mouth, change feet, repeat frequently.

Muttling, on the other side these people should have known what they were getting into when they joined terrorist groups. They were prepared to do suicide bombings so rendition and torture should be a walk in the park for them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the Bush admin. they're idiots. They said that Al Zawrahiri guy or whatever his name is didn't last 2 minutes with waterboarding! He started giving up his buddies right away! Pussy! And Fatpig Kennedy asked; "Is it torture if it's done to you?" "No Ted, only if YOU did it to Mary Jo Kopechne!"

I am purposefully not taking a position on the actions themselves and only pointing out how stupidly the administration has handled the diplomacy surrounding this entire thing. Whether the actions are right or wrong, they have totally fucked up the foreign policy aspect of this operation.

Popeye are you aware that several people eventually released after being renditioned were innocent? Khaled El-Masri for instance.

The only thing about it that confuses me is why Westminster has gone to such lengths to deny what we all suspected... when it was bound to come out in the end. At least Washington bothered to pass legislation to patch the holes they made in their constitution. Britain seems to have pretended to the electorate that they at most had arms' length involvement, knowing that eventually information about this joint task force would emerge. Nuts. Surely they could have foreseen that less damage would be done either by staying away from this action altogether or by stating in advance - as they have with things like the 42 days rule - that they sought to alter constitutional rights.

It was in 1883 when President Author authorized the rendition of Frederick Ker. The case was appealled all the way to the Supreme Court who upheld the rendition. http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=119&invol=436 However, I am curious as to how they define the difference between rendition and extraordinary rendition which began under the Clinton administration but not in nearly the same capacity. The Clinton administration (like the Author administration) moved the prisoner from one country to another for criminal prosecution even though we knew countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia would torture them. In the case of the Bush administration, charges of crimes have not been forth coming.
