In all honesty, all three of those are among my goals.  A wider audiance would be wonderful, having a printed copy would be special to me (writing has been a passion for a long time) and as a student, I certainly wouldn't mind the royalties.

Other published writers might chime in, but it's my understanding that it's nearly impossible to make any money in publishing erotica.  There is so much of it available for free on the web, and you don't have a lot of options with regards to publishers.   If you continue to publish your erotica for free on a web site, traffic will build and you will develop an audience. I did that for ten years.  It opened doors to some publishing opportunities, but it was never my goal to write a book, so I never pursued it.

I'm surprised literotica turned you down - they seem to be the biggest and most comprehensive site on the web for stories.  Try bdsmlibrary.com also.

I was surprised about being turned down as well.  I don't really think my stories are all that far out there, though perhaps the "reluctance" aspect (kind of a forced slavery theme) was too much for them.  I don't know.  Honestly, I would love to be published on Literotica.  They just don't seem to like my work.

Have you asked anyone for an honest critique of your work? I understand you don't want to be judged by an editor on your content, but in order to get an audience, you need to have some pretty good bait. Are you sure your writing is up to par to compete with the glut already available?

I have asked a couple of people who I know will be brutally honest with me, and aside from a few dyslexic errors that spell check misses, they have found nothing wrong with it.  Both of them, like myself, frequent literotica and have for years.  It is never easy to have your work disected, though I am always open to constructive critisism.

Termyn8or -> RE: Self publishing BDSM stories? (2/25/2008 2:04:15 PM)

I never tried to make money from writing. Really I am probably not good enough to make alot.

My latest, I actually restarted. It's called Cherry Girl and is about a crack whore getting kidnapped by a rich guy who cleans her up and lets her go later but she doesn't go. She decides to stay. It is very light on kink and I think I want to keep it that way. I would like a larger potential audience.

My other story, it has so much kink in it I can't take it out. I have tried. I have tried to rewrite it more than once but it is so kinky that I get to a point and then it is "Why the hell did they do that ?". I can't justify the story line.

I am not digging myself into a hole like that on this new one. Actually Cherry Girl will most likely be available this week or so. At least the first edition of it. It will just be in my personal FTP as a DOC file.

There is an interesting twist to my style of writing you will see if you are interested. No names. I make the story work without names. What's more I am a 47 year old Man and am writing Cherry Girl in first person from the perspective of a 24 year old hooker who is hooked on crack. At least at the beginning.

I'll proof your work. I would consider it a free preview. Perhaps you might return the favor.

Get me on the other side with a real email and you can send me your DOCs and I'll send you mine.

okay, as someone who writes capture bondage novels (and other erotica) for a living you're going to come across a couple of problems.

Even POD or self publishing has to follow certain rules because of distribution. However there is one self publishing option that does take harder core stories and that would be www.a1adultebooks.com  that would be e-book only.

If you want a wider distribution of the e-book then you have to be aware that forced would have to fall into 'forced seduction' and then within the guidelines that the publisher has. One publisher I'd suggest for that is www.renebooks.com for their sizzler line. I have 28 with them currently, with two more in the cue to be released.

For erotic romance that isn't hard core forced seduction but is a romance based story I'd look at www.loose-id.com I have 4 there but it has to be a romance based plot. Better sales than any other company I've worked with so far and their three stage edit process is spot on.

No, I don't publish as silver muse, but have no problem passing on my pen name for those interested. I have 50 titles currently out through various publishing houses, with another 25 due before the end of the year.
