Y0. Population. soon 9 billion. we see the start of resource wars. many seek the western gluttony of consuption. every 4 days 1,000,000,000 born. next- air that seeps into my own home too fiilthy to breath. so pollution. we next have a triickle down of tasers, rude treatment, basically loss of human rights. next, the peon cant herself navigate the court system, as being right = deep pockets. next - corporations who stack the public til -being the fox who guards the chicken house -under the law, has more rights then a human. next- a media complicit in "commentary" all designed to let the corporate masters amass wealth- while society basics are neglected. distraction and titilation when many jos now are in india, leaving mmcjobs in the US. I vote I write congress, the governor, - and more then 1 time. How can one person make the world better? or as mom would say choose your battles carefully. per haps one is better off blending in- as even a letter can sic the fed on y0u. ????

Invention's my path. The world really does need a huge population reduction. I know China has measures.. I hope they're effective. Africia certainly needs to lower its population to a point it can feed, but that's not reasonable when many have little to do besides have sex and birth control is so expensive. Sometimes I see the world as a bank account yielding interest for a family. But right now, that family's so large that they're not only consuming all of the interest but they're dipping into the base. In some respects, rather critically. That family really needs to get smaller because there's really only so much that this world can provide! A globe covered in humans is not a viable world; at least, not at a technological level anywhere near ours.

Education and freethinking. Two things this world is sorely lacking. Get involved actively in whatever your passionate about on the local level. Get to know the players. It's not always about money. Sometimes it is just enough to step up and say the right thing to the right person. And I don't think it hurts to throw in a prayer or two. I'm not anyone special. I have about half a dozen pet causes. Sometimes the comittees I've sat on have won and sometimes we've had our asses handed to us and been told to come up with a more viable solution. It's not always easy. Sometimes it's frustrating as hell, but each victory, or partial victory makes it worth it. Each loss is an opportunity to learn what not to do again. If one is truly interested in making a difference what they can not do is give in to the "what difference can one person make anyways blues".

I do what I do. I tend to support with my time and energy more than my money. A few months ago I rebuilt the network for a woman's non-profit. I got a tax receipt, but did not make enough last year for that to be helpful. It took a couple of hours of my time, and I could directly see my contribution at work, rather than wondering what they did with my check. For me, voting is not enough of a difference. I want to leave the world a better place than I found it. Sinergy

Think globally, act locally. Pay it foreward. Do random acts of kindnesses. Make yourself a better person and people around you will be happier, thus making people around them feel better. Keep family farms alive by driving farther to the farmer's markets and not buying imported foods at the grocery store when the same stuff, with better taste, is available locally. I'm in the top apple producing county of NY state, second in total production only to Washington state. Our local apples taste better because they haven't been sitting in an apple cooler in CA for a year. But people are brainwashed to buy Gala from Washington State, that are mealy and tasteless instead of a fresh Royal Gala from three miles away that bursts with flavor. Make your own pickles with home grown cucumbers without spray instead of buying ones filled with pesticide and shipped halfway around the world.

We all have a ripple effect on those around us. They in turn have ripple effects, and so on. We don't always know exactly how far our ripples reach or who they touch. Do you want to create good ripples or bad ripples? You have a choice.

no doubt alot can be said for working smarter not harder. next- many modes are already invented- so build on that. in a nut shell -wise use of resources. tho the formula to do that is murky at best. after all humans are inherantly selfish.

Read Atlas Shrugged. John Galt was one man. You want real people? Rosa Parks. Jesus Christ. Martin Luther King. Galileo. William F. Buckley. Charles Lindberg. St. Francis of Asisi. Pope John Paul II. Granted, their "differences" may or may not be consistent with your world view as stated, but you asked "how" and all you have to do is read their respective biographies. There are as many ways to make a difference as there are people.

Can 1 person make a difference? Of course. Mentor someone, volunteer somewhere, share a skill or talent. You can always make the world a better place...one person at a time.

Be unconditionally kind to strangers every day. Smile at people. Volunteer. Give your money to those who need it more than you do. Do one act of kindness each day for no other reason than to do it --do not expect anything in return. Your kindness will lead other people to act in the same way. Akasha
