Being Gorean Honor is something that is held very highly.  Well although Steven Spielberg may not be Gorean he is certainly a Man of Honor.  Recently Spielberg walked away from the being on the Olympic Commitee of Mainland China.  The reason, he could not be a part of anything that had to with Chinese Government who human rights standing is so poor.  Further that the Chinese are supplying weapons to African nations that are allied to the Chinese and also violate human rights.  The Chinese Government has lashed out at Spielberg for leaving.  The Chinese had hoped to have people like Spielberg on the Olympic committees to focus away from China human rights violation.

Unlike many who saw a chance to make money Spielberg let his conscience guide him.  Steven Spielberg is a Man of Honor.

Spielberg would have more credibility if he opposed some of the US's foreign policies. Since it is demonize China decade in America and Darfur is the fashionable cause of the year, Spielberg isn't really doing anything at all but playing to the gallery. As for giving up a chance to earn money, it is not as if he is wondering how on earth he can buy his next slice of bread.

The POTUS....

"I`m go`n ta the Olymics,I view it as a sporting event.

Later he says,"America is "trapped in this notion" that we care about human life.

"Trapped in this notion",is not a positive way of putting it.

The part about Darfur and the Chinese Olympics is about half way through.

I dont view it this way.  speilberg KNEW china was china way before he agreed to coreograph.   we know nothng about human rights.  we know how to corporatize, mcdonaldize, walmartize, outsourize  so called "freedom"

the unfortunate thing is -there could be a boycott.

the dude had 1 or 2 brockbuster movies- aside from that the creative energy of hollywood is so laking we now have to re-do stories of 50 years ago.

anyhow- i dont think he is one way or another in regards to honor.

KatyLied -> RE: Steven Spielberg a Man with Honor (2/22/2008 1:09:01 PM)

I thought it was funny when I did a google search and the first article I found was <paraphrase alert> "how can he resign from something he never agreed to do".

So no one should to take a stand of conscience because the Chinese 'might boycott'?

Then how can the Chinese be outraged by his withdrawing from something, if  he was never in it to begin with?[;)]

Easy to be "a man of honor" when you're filthy rich.
Don't pay too much attention to what the "Hollywood" people do, there's a lot of "actors" out there!

seeksfemslave -> RE: Steven Spielberg a Man with Honor (2/22/2008 2:53:07 PM)

He did NOT walk away he came under criticism from campaigners, Mia Farrow was one.
How can Americans or Brits for that matter be so blind as to criticise China for selling arms. I arsk ya'. Totally ridiculous.
As Popeyes said a bit "posee" too.
As for honour, what does that really mean ?
Killing your daughter if she refuses to marry someone that she is told she must.
or
If she tries to escape an unhappy marriage.
Spielberg just recognised that his Liberal cred. was at risk and acted accordingly.

No he is just another hypocrite.

Don't throw stones in glass houses.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Steven Spielberg a Man with Honor (2/22/2008 5:01:30 PM)

I know Robert Duvall said publicly that he would never be in a Spielberg movie because of his travel to Cuba and Castro ass kissing.
