Over the past four decades, since Volcker and Reagan, and getting worse when we get to the Bushes, the tax burden has been shifted onto the backs of the middle class, the lower middle class, and the working poor. The wealthy, the top 2%, have been getting a free ride. It is time to ratchet that back in the other direction for a change.

Now, in this state, if you buy a pair of shoes or a computer, or a new coat, you pay sales tax. In some states, you even pay sales tax on your grocery bill. The sales tax is one of the worst taxes. It is a regressive tax – it hits the poor the hardest. By contrast, if you think of the trillions and quadrillions of dollars that go through Wall Street and the Chicago futures markets every day, you find that the bankers and financiers do not pay one cent of taxes on any of that astronomical tursnip======================================
interesing idea

As bad as it is, and it is bad, I hardly see taxes going down.

IF anything, if either party is elected, taxes probably will go up.

Republicans will send most of our tax money to Iraq and to fund other wars.

Democrats will add so many new social problems taxes will surely rise.

it seems to me wallstreet made a huge deal over a penny a share tax proposal in the past.  a mutual fund manager takes 2% -so 3% to shore up everything seems doable.  after all look at how banks have fees for everything-  if a bank handled tax policy i can imagine the surcharges....
