I wonder if the Oil companies will use THIS  oil refinery explosion  as an excuse to raise fuel prices in America?

This refinery only produces 1/2 of 1 percent of the oil refined in the US. I'll bet they use this as an excuse to raise prices at least 40 cents a gallon by this weekend.

Hope I'm wrong.

Butch

Probably not if it only has a 70k bbl output per day.

Without a doubt. The prices just jumped 6 cents today here where I'm at.

well since we only have a handful of refineries due to the enviromentalist throwing temper tantrums about even explanding current refineries, you can count on it. We havent built a new refinery to keep up with deman since 1976 or so, and of course the nation taxes the living hell out of the gas as it is.

If you think the environmentalist are the reason that no new refineries are being built perhaps you should read this.

Cato is conservative.   You might be interested to know a HUGS natural gas deposit has be found in Pennsylvania.  [possibly under my place, and I own mineral rights...]

Petrol was too cheap anyway, considering it's a finite resource.

Exactly. Those elephant cars should be banned, for a start. Not only do they guzzle petrol like the Queen Mother did with gin, they're a fucking eyesore.

Our gas prices went up about 2 cents so far.  We're now at 2.95 a gallon for plus.
So that is 2.95 a gallon for regular as well.  Plus has ethanol in it..so it makes it a little bit cheaper

Genau. Way more finite than most people realize. Peak oil has been passed.

Yeah, but, even if there was some found in PA, it wont last much more then a year (and thats getting it out, not using it) im sure, the demand and our dependacy is crazy for it

It's not too cheap if the competition is going to be compressed air motors.

My thinking is that we should use oil for non-fuel manufacturing needs only (i.e. plastics) and use alt energy for everything else.

Peak oil is market hype, pump and dump.

Really? There's another gas price thread here. There's a little more info than in this one.

Prices have been wiggling here, but more toward the lower end.  Word is that all the SUVS are getting dumped since we have a very mobile community with terrible public transportation.  Demand is down, and prices are falling in My part of Az.

They went up here again.  I paid 3.05 a gallon today.  It cost me $37.00 to fill up my little truck.  On the bright side, I only have to do that once every two weeks.  So it's not hurting me that much.  Get rid of your gas guzzlers folks; the price isn't going down by any significant amount.

Premium went from $3.16 to $3.19 in a few hours today at the cheapest place near my house, and they were $2.99 before this refinery incident.

Color the OP psychic.

Couldn't have anything to do with speculators driving up the price now could it? Closed over $100 today.
Couldn't have anything to do with the Chavez threats, and the shuffle to rearrange who's going to be sending oil where.

Plenty of explinations for the price going up, but as mentioned earlier overall we're still adjusted for inflation paying about the same for gas as we did well over a decade ago, so gas is really still far ceaper than the market says it should be here in the US.

(NOTE this does not mean I want to see the price driven up just that I understand it is held artificially low in the US in terms of the world market)
